Way to go Surf!!!!! These are the kinds of lessons that all of us who marched in local corps used to get BITD. You have in me a loyal fan.

The real concern is that GH will one day say/post/write something quite damaging that cannot be erased with a simple apology.

Maybe the best 20 seconds in DCI history....

Scouts - God Bless the Child
Surf - Big Noise from Winnetka

'78 PR is the reference standard.
SOA bari's from 77-81 were about as loud and full as you will ever hear.

'80 - 27 won East and should have but that was when they peaked. Allentown was electric that night. BD was as clean a corps as I ever saw under the tick system. They had it won Finals night. 27's horn line was weak from an execution standpoint and that is what probably cost them in the end. Ironic that their '81 hornline was much better but the rest of the corps had lost a step by that point.
'78 - I thought PR had it over SCV then, still do today.

Finleyville....loved the horn book!!!!

I voted for WA Black Watch. would have been nice to see St. Iggy's and Arbella in there unless of course you were planning a separate All Girl poll.

I left the BD Forums in '04 for many of the same reasons Keith. As a result, this place never was going to have the same meaning for me.
Thanks for all of your insight and best of luck!!!!

1981 Crossmen sops line of just off the 50 and play each others valves for a really nice lick.
Cadets copied it a couple of years back.
1980 North Star during Gerry Noonan's solo in Ole the whole corps stops, goes to parade rest and puts their heads and equipment down. Nice bit of dramatic staging.
1978 Bridgemen what I would have given to have been one of the baris backing up Jim Brady during Harlem Nocturne.

Yeah..I remember sitting in the stands and being on pins and needles.
-
The sop player coming from the tunnel was a regular part of the drill. He hit his spot just fine. No problems there.

I would point out that you yourself are complaining about those who are complaining about the complaining but then I would be complaining about your complaining about their complaining about the complaining.
Brilliant...very Pythonesque

For those who weren't around yet, those costumes during the corps 'Wiz" show were generally referred to as "Coca-Cola" costumes, due to the red and white color scheme and the thick wavy lines. I personally thought they were quite attractive in their streamlined look and believed they would point the way to more such bodysuits.
I may have the color scheme wrong in my memory. Would someone please enlighten me?
Here is the Coca-Cola emblem that generated the comparisons. On Freelancers' guard, the stripe ran vertical.
Michael, my memory is of an all black jumpsuit with a thick white belt and a white hat.

Freelancers jumpsuits from '79 warrant consideration.

A couple of years back I suggested a Marching Member's Bill of Rights.
A broad set of standards published by DCI that all corps would adhere to.
An example could be:
Proper health care/ screening be available to all corps members at all times while participating in corps organized activities.
I'm not saying that this does not currently occur but that this and whatever conventions like this that are currently in place should be documented.
I was promptly laughed off these boards.

Creativity in drill design is at an all time low.
Melody was cut out years before.
What's left but to inject more silliness?

A lot of mixed opinion about the Blue Devils show, how it is being rewarded and what that might mean for the future of the activity.
I thought it might be interesting to see what shows people have liked the best over the last dozen or so years.
For me the 2 that stand out are....
BAC 2000 - Red
PR 2005 - Rhapsody in Blue
Maybe someone who is more perceptive than I will be able to discern a pattern once there are a few more repsonses.

Let him have his opinion. Lighten up.
DCP: Where no fun is allowed and you're always wrong. :P
Hmmm.....I never said he was wrong now did I.
In fact, I used the word subjective specifically as a signal to let him know that I recognized in a playful way that he was voicing his opinion.
No where in my post did I disagree with him.
Is it possible that you may have read a more serious tone into my post than intended?
I strive not to create problems with comprehension and tend to be one of the more easygoing characters around here.

Surf has a fun, accessible show.
They are clearly into it and sell it well.
Truth be told though, their execution is not at the level of the corps that inspired them.
Let's hope they can get there and remain an entertaining and fun group.
