  1. There is a deluge just west of the south loop and south of the Katy Freeway right now. Headed towards Cypress it thins out.
  2. I relish a chance to see the new show!!!
  3. You are the one who used artistic and creative. I see them diffrerently and was looking for clarity. Help me out.
  4. Hmmm... we started with a poll that referenceing "artistic" that was referred to in the 1st post as "creative" and I have seen references to many shows that were entertaining. Been around since '77 and am having difficulty responding since I'm not clear what we are going after. Artistic spans eras and is highly subjective. You can go anywhere from the madness of the Bridgemen shows of tha late 70's to the dignity of the Suncoast Vietnam show to BAC's moving Red. Creative asks me to look at change. That being the case it's a hands down lock to what Zingali did with the Cadets from '82- To my eyes and ears everything else since then is just polishing the apple. Entertaining? That's a whole different thread that has been beaten to death here far to many times...
  5. Looks like INT won't be performing 2x as orginally scheduled.
  6. The missing piece here is education for the marching members. The NBA and NFL aomng others have programs that educate new athletes to the sport about being careful of all kinds of predatory behavior that they are likely to run into. So where is a mandatory educational compoment for marching members that tells them what to watch for, how to react and who to go to if they have or become aware of a problem? DCI should really step up in this area.
  7. Wondering if the current scoring system is moving towards obsolescence. Seems as if it has increasing difficulty drawing meaningful comparisons between corps.
  8. You get points for trying to interject logic into an emotional discussion.
  9. Amazing how with all the venom in this thread the activity has survived at all...
  10. It sure looked that way from the stands....
  11. It is kind of ridiculous how little people pay attention. He explained his methodology last week. Go find the thread and educate yourself before you start calling him on individual scores and look foolish.
  12. 78-80 Spirit had a uniformly tall sop line. It was an impressive site.
  13. It will be very interesting to see if the full panels impact the current trends.
  14. Thanks for the well organized and well thought out platform Marcus. After reading it with as much detail as you clearly read the G7 proposal, I keep coming back to one thing much like you did. Your call on the G7, specifically GH to stop asking for permission, stop waffling and jump squarely into the revolutionary model. I could not agree more... Did I mention that I for one will be glad to see them go?
  15. BD runs a B corps and a C corps. SCV runs a cadet corps. Both with associated costs for staff, equipment, travel, administration, etc... Both BD and SVC have higher travel expenses due to geography. These are areas that could be looked at as bingo revenues decline. I'm curious how much of a marching members fee every year is profit. Are marching members covering their own costs? If not, there is another potential source of revenue. Conversely, a corps could cut back down from 150 and save money.
  16. 1st place - SOA '80 Birmingham Finals 2nd place - SOA '80 Allentown Finals Was lucky enough to on be on tour in '80 and see/hear prelims and finals performances for both shows. Seen everything else since and no other corps is even close to the Allentown perfromance let alone Birmingham.
  17. Well thought out discussion. The only inconsistency I see in your ideas is that on the one hand you assert that the overall market for the product has decreased and on the other that increased revenue could come from things other than ticket sales. So you want to get that smaller group of people to spend more money? Who is more likely to have that money? High school kids or legacy fans?
  18. A larger and more diverse pool of judges would tend to even out the very discrepancies that the member corps seek so strongly to control. The application of basic statistical principles. DCI could move itself into the future, lower it's cost base and create a little excitement all at the same time.
  19. Go with but then again. Six Sigma is a discipline that is fact(data) based. It is not difficult to grasp conceptually at a high level but requires training, practice and repeated application to master. GH is much more of an "idea" guy at this point. Admittedly it was 10 years ago when I interviewed with him but at that point he was not what I would have described as a professionally trained manager.
  20. I'm LSS Green Belt certified myself Dean. Just enough knowledge to make me dangerous...lol Would love to see the G7 abd DCI proposals in full with all of the supporting research/ documentation. Let's make sound decisions based on real data.
  21. Agreed Change falls along a continuum ranging from Evolutionary to Revolutionary. Clearly the G7 are pointing more to the Revolutionary end of the spectrum. What I have not seen from them or in their presentation is a definition of the problem as they perceive it followed by a quantitative analysis of that problem. In other words... How did we get to wear we are today? Without that their proposal rightfully appears to be self-serving. By contrast the DCI Board proposal seems thoughtful and well organized.
  22. In addition, every year for the past 5, YEA has run urgent calls at the last minute(as in the week of) looking for volunteers to staff USSBA shows. Not sure this is a wagon that the G7 would want to hitch to.
