  1. we have a guy down here and his name is fucillo. his deals are " HUGE "
  2. things happen. judges make mistakes. it all comes out in the wash. if somebody hosed a corps in this era , trust me it ain't gonna happen again. let" see what happens this week.
  3. the big thing at the beginning and through all of my time was you had to be separated from any " senior " corps for at least a year. but i will say there were a lot of ex cabs and sky judging. things happened. 1972 DCA was a big cluster ####. it was the worst judging in all my years. it was so political. and people were thrown out after that. then things started to get a little better.
  4. well maybe we are talking about two different things. when a snare line falls apart you can hear that fuzz very well. when the snares and tonal drums are out of phase you can hear that. can't say about with the brass.
  5. and that would be politics and it has always existed. and always will. they are the bucs and clearly will get the benefit of the doubt for now.
  6. i don't buy that. i know this may or may not be relevent but in 1975 the percussion judges on the field were able to com stnad right with in 2-3 feet of the line. because of that they heard every tear and mistake. the nubers barely got above zero. mid season they were told to step back a couple of feet and the scores went up. so how that relates i don't really know. but the closer you are to drums the more you hear. farther back all you hear are the bigger mistakes.
  7. can you explain what you mean here so i can understand why you question the spreads. i wasn't there so you can help.
  8. in the long past we could but i think in this era you can't make a big fix. one year, 1969 we changed the whole first half of the show in mid season. but we were a local corps and had thursday and friday nights to work it. then we had our own show that was just an exhibition. we pulled it off and went from 7th to 5th. in 72 the cabs made wholesale changes and won DCA. but those were different times. don't think anybody can do it now. but i've been wrong before.
  9. sounds like the bucs have a lot of work to do. but if you are right about the book and the sound who knows if they can catch up. thanks john.
  10. so compare this to the bucs. i'm just curious as to where these 2 lines stack up at this point.
  11. i hope you do. it would be great to get the instant review.
  12. actually between what you posted and what john posted explained pretty well for me at least. it helped a lot. sounds like the sheets are very difficult to score. and for the record, percussion judges have always been not shy about hitting people. percussionists and the judges are a different kind of person. very rough and critical of each other. but that's a good thing. they all demand perfection. i know . i was a drummer.
  13. okie dokie. my bad. i guess i read it wrong. i forgot who i was replying to.
  14. i don't know about the rest of what you said but be sure of one thing. the bucs will bounce back. how far we don't know. but they are the champs and will go down swinging. i know a lot of people want a new champ and they may get one. but like cabs in the old days at A.L. nats never count them out. the entire field from top to bottom will be a dog fight. EVERYBODY seems motivated.
  15. right there are no attacks. that's good. but what i don't like is when people go to their corners and start to say things about the spreads. we always get that. this is one DCA panel. next week may be different then it will be who's panel was right. i just see this coming. as for camel's predictability? i've been doing that for years and generally it works. i think DCA has a formula that works.
  16. every year it's the same old tired , worn out arguments. the bucs got beat. the cabs won. the bucs ain't going away with out a fight. you will get different panels and come DCA we will have a champ. it's really that simple. spreads open and tighten all year. and there will be some surprises.
  17. all very good points ray. you really are a smart guy. you got this judging thing down pat.
  18. so you think the bucs can't beat the cabs this year? really? i think the bucs run maybe over but not without a fight. but i wasn't there so we will see.
  19. looks like the bucs run is probably over. things are changing. and this is what happens when a corps doesn't want to do contest's every week. i always thought the bucs didn't compete enough. but congrats to the cabs. they are on their way. ponzo must be very happy. good for you frank!
