  1. The Sun Devils recon team safely arrived at the Radisson. We met up with a few members and staff that were already here. The corps is scheduled to arrive ~9:00pm. Tonight!... we dine at DINOSAUR!
  2. 3:15am. The SD scout team is heading back to the hotel from the Seneca Niagara casino. It is really time for bed now. The corps will be here tomorrow. Dinosaur BBQ is in my future.
  3. The corps is on the move! I heard the bus has power outlets for the seats, which is a big upgrade from the other bus we have been using all season. In Niagara Falls now...
  4. Welcome to the final travel update thread for the Sun Devils' 2010 season! I am writing this entry from gate C9 in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. I am headed up one day early to actually check out the sites before the corps arrives tomorrow. I will say that the corps will be traveling on a NEW BUS The members are excited about traveling up to Rochester as seen by each and every one of their Facebook status updates. During the course of the weekend, I will be updating DCP, Facebook, and Twitter. Become a Fan! http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pro...5982&ref=ts Follow us! http://twitter.com/sundevilscorps See you on the 50! ... or at Dinosaur BBQ
  5. I just got pulled over by the Turner county sheriff. Drum corps sacrifice, or 85 in a 70. I'm trying to get to a show officer!
  6. Good morning all, and welcome to the second to last Sun Devils travel thread! Here you will find travel updates as the corps moves back up to Georgia to attend the Corpsvets show, Southern Showdown. I am starting this thread a little early because I am heading up to early. Per usual we will be updating DCP, Facebook, and Twitter. http://twitter.com/sundevilscorps http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pro...5982&ref=ts See you on the road! Southern Showdown August 21, 2010 - 8:00 PM East Coweta Middle School 6291 Hwy 16 Senoia, GA 30276
  7. The Sun Devils Drum and Bugle Corps wish you all safe travels. We will see you on the "other" side!
  8. Thank you very much Doctor! As always, I appreciate your comments. Your review was unbiased and well written. I fully expect another review from you in 2 weeks. Great seeing you again!
  9. You know what? It just would not be a Sun Devils trip without an equipment breakdown. The bus alternator failed, but the bus is still moving without AC. A relief bus is on it's way from Englewood, FL.
  10. The corps is fed and got some rest before heading back out the parking lot field for more fun in the sun. Rehearsal is done at 4:45. The corps is on the field at 8:00pm. Everywhere we go it is always 90+ degrees. Cannot wait until ROC.
  11. The corps drove through the night and finally made it to the show site in Woodstock! After a very filling breakfast at Cracker Barrel, we look forward to a nice long stretch and visual block before we take the field for ensemble.
  12. We are not staying. Driving up tonight > rehearse> do the show > come right back!
  13. Thanks man. Run an extra lap for you??? Only if you buy the first round in the ROC. See you guys tomorrow!
  14. Welcome back to another rousing Sun Devils travel thread. This year we've seen bus breakdowns, truck break downs and tornados. Let's have a nice ride up to Woodstock, GA and as Bobby Flay would say, "throw down!" Due to some EXTREME generosity from our corps director's company, Comfort Temp, the corps will be renting a box truck for DCA Atlanta. Comfort Temp is carrying the entire truck rental for this trip! Of course, we still are trying to figure out what to do with Old Yella and the rest of the season. However, we are relieved that Comfort Temp stepped in our time of need. Thanks John for working for such a "cool" company! The corps will be leaving later today to head up to Georgia. Travel updates will be coming from the bus and passenger vehicles this time. The corps +staff is too large for one bus. So to help out with budgetary needs, some members are driving to Georgia, myself included. That is it for the pre-trip update. You may now return to your regularly scheduled work day.
  15. HOT D*MN! Way to execute such a tough book! The Sun Devils are fortunate enough to get to see this show twice before prelims. See you next week!
  16. The short story - severe engine trouble. So much so that we had to rent a U-haul somewhere in West Virginia. We had to leave the truck and the trailer up there. The BOD is devising a plan to go pick up the trailer. Unsure of what to do with the truck. What a week. And it is only Monday!
  17. Dwayne and Gary... Thank you from the entire Sun Devils organization! I am personally quite touched by your generosity. Folks - THIS is what drum corps is all about. It's about family. Again...thank you.
  18. Just got word that the U-haul rental truck JUST crossed the Florida border. It's not a Sun Devils trip without some type of travel equipment failure.
  19. Thank you for your concern. I know the folks driving the truck will appreciate it. My last update from the truck was that they were able to find a rental shop somewhere in Northern Virginia. They had to fit everything from "Old Yella" and our trailer into a much smaller U-haul truck. John Hoekstra (Exec director) and Mark Scott (corps photog, and overall awesome guy) had to endure a deluge AFTER they took all of the equipment out. What that means is that they had to dry all of our pit equipment first, then put all of our stuff into the new truck. Needless to say, Old Yella is no more. The corps is actively looking for someone who has access to a heavy duty truck to haul a 30 foot trailer. Any ideas? Please PM me and I will get the info over to our director. Jamestown was a great show! Our members could not wait to get the show on the field after that crazy storm. We thought we were getting away from the humidity, but rather it felt like an every day Sunday afternoon on a camp day. Thanks for the hospitality. The show site was easily Box 5 and so were the showers! Until Woodstock, GA.
  20. Show is done! Watching MBI now. Good show. Drum major retreat. See you on the other side.
  21. Severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings caused all participants to take cover in the school. We are not sure of start times, but the corps just went back to polishing their horns b More to come
