  1. Hey! You shut up! :P I don't live anywhere NEAR those crack-houses. :)
  2. Woah. You're freaking me out. You have those too? That's common? It's been 13 years since I aged out and I still have those dreams occasionally.
  3. Are you serious? Buncha wusses. [Jersey accent]Back when I maaached drumcar[/Jersey accent]: Anyone remember finals week 93? Heatwave in friggin Jackson Mississippi! When the big story in the local news in Jackson friggin Mississippi is the heatwave, THEN you KNOW it's hot! I think it was over 100 all week. [Jersey accent]We didn't have no frickin' show delays because of heat! We maaached in 100 degree heat, and we LIKED it!!![/Jersey accent]
  4. Who cares at a life and death level of caring? Nobody. (Well... maybe one or two 'drumcorps is all there is to life' people). But who cares just for fun? I'm sure lots.
  5. Having basically the same 3 corps trade wins year after year has gotten majorly boring. Imagine how exciting a drumcorps season would be if we had say 15 corps who consistantly performed at approximately the same level with each other year to year. Each season would be a tossup between those 15 corps - heck, each show would be a dogfight. Now that would be kewl. B)
  6. No fronts moving through any of the areas where shows are being held tonight so any rain would be from pop-ups. Usually these are fairly short lived so hopefully we'll be a go for all shows tonight.
  7. If this were Jeopardy, the above would be the answer to each of the following: What is rude? What is arrogant? What is self-centered? What is inconsiderate?
  8. The video and sound aren't any closer to live as you might expect it to be with a large screen and theater sound system, but it's still worth going. Having a lively crowd helps pick up some of the slack of not actually being there live.
  9. Scores are up on dci.org: 1 Blue Devils 93.300 2 Bluecoats 91.050 3 Blue Knights 86.950 4 Carolina Crown 86.900 5 Spirit from JSU 84.100 6 Capital Regiment 79.200 7 The Magic 73.450
  10. He said it's the parents' job to teach their kids. I said it's the parents job to determine when their kids are mature enough to handle making their own decisions. I suppose I didn't make it clear that what I meant is that both of those statements are aligned in their philosophy. So why is it ridiculous for parents to determine when their kids are mature enough to handle making their own decisions? I don't mean to say that there's a point from where parents should be making all of their childrens' decisions and then at some later point all of a sudden let them make all of their own decisions. It's a gradual thing. You start out by letting them make decisions on simple things when they're younger and gradually - as they mature - you let them make more decisions on their own. As for a parent letting their 15 or 16 year-old march a DivI corps - they may determine that their child is not mature enough to handle decisions on their own concerning the possibility of encountering drugs or alcohol, possibly with the added danger of peer pressure, etc. Then again - they may decide that their child is mature enough at 15 or 16 to make wise decisions on their own. But it's still the parent's job to make the determination of when that should occur. That is not ridiculous.
  11. You basically said the same thing I did, but were wordier in you explanation than me. So why do you say it's ridiculous?
  12. Me too. We're not worthy, 89 Phantom, we're not worthy!!!
  13. Ok - I've got a giant jar full of pennies. I'll be happy to look through them and see if I can find all the years that people need if you all let me know what you need. Anyone know where to go to get the silver plating done? And how much it costs?
  14. Darn right. It's a parents job to determine when their kid is ready and mature enough to handle the realities of the world. That's part of what parenting is.
  15. In 93, with 2 weeks left on tour, Bluecoats filled a mello hole with the rookie pit alternate/waterboy. His first show was either quarters or semis - I forget which. He knocked it out of the park in my opinion. Especially for a pit guy who has never marched in his life. I have alot of respect for that guy - he was put into an impossible situation under alot of pressure and made it work.
  16. I think you're taking the post the wrong way, but even if that's how they meant it - it's still a parent's job to make decisions for their kids. Kids are not supposed to make up thier own minds. If a parent feels that there are some bad influences in drum corps (which there are) that they feel their kids aren't mature enough to handle or shouldn't be exposed to, then that's their prerogative to deny them that (regardless of any other benefits they might get).
  17. Gotta agree with everyone else - Suncoast 88 was an awesome show. I hated 93 Star all through tour. The first time I saw it from the stands early in the season I was like "wtf is THAT"? But at semis I went into the stands after we did our show and watched them from the 4th row. I was in awe of that hornline. Now it's one of my favorite shows. 90 Star and 91 BD as others have mentioned are also favorites. Our (Bluecoats) 92 show was way off the charts bizarre, but I actually like the music (except for Penny Lane). I like the opener (Eleanor Rigby) alot because it has a few bits and pieces of other songs hidden throughout. I like the beginning of the closer (A Day In the Life) cause it sounds like music from a pron video! (Not that I would know what porn video music sounds like - that's just what I've been told). One strange one that i didn't care for is 95 BD Carpe Noctem.
  18. During tour, we've had members just meet informally outside of rehersal time to have a bible study or whatever. During pre-tour rehersals when I marched in Sky Ryders, we didn't start Sunday rehersals until 1PM to allow members to go to church if they wished.
  19. This guy has been around a long time. I remember seeing him at shows ever since I aged out in 93 so he's been doing this for at least 12 years. He's got a good reputation - plus he's a really nice guy. I just sent him a check earlier this week to secure some tickets for finals. I have bought tix from him before but it was always in person - this is the first time through mail. I figure if he screws me I know where to find him! ^0^
