  1. Love the Blue Stars show, but think that their run last night was tighter. Have been a fan of the BStars guard for a while now, but they seemed a tad off tonight. Equipment angles, synchronicity missing, etc. Don't get me wrong--still love the show and the opening soloist does it for me every time. Love the trumpet soloist near the end as well. Visual seemed tight, and ensemble seemed solid. GE and guard were off for me a little tonight. We'll see what that does for scores.
  2. So they can post on social media but not on their own website? I've got FLOmarching open, DCP, email, and five work windows...Geesh!!
  3. why the heck would they mute the scores? Especially since DCI is not posting them on their website either, as they used to do updating them. This is utterly ridiculous!!!
  4. what the heck just happened with the sound after the announcement of the first score for Jersey Surf??? Come on, Flo!!!!!!!!
  5. Just logged on, and I really enjoyed SCVC, they had a great performance. I don't think it was as strong as the WC corps in the same 16 - 17 range- i.e., I think that there is still a jump from them to Academy, and maybe a jump to even Music City. But, I am very impressed with the overall performance level of the five OC corps making semi-finals!!
  6. OK, whenever the announcer said, here are scores from the first block, then FloMarching cut away and didn't let us hear those scores. Did I miss them, posted on the screen? --I broke to read DCP posts!! They are not on DCI yet--could we start a post with the scores updated as folks have them? Thanks!
  7. Could someone explain to me how they can compete with woodwinds? I don't mind it, and they are enjoyable, but it is not the same medium as brass/perc/cg. I remember several international competitors in the past and Canadian corps over the years, but not any bands with woodwinds. You're right they are big, bold, and brassy! Thanks for the background info, anyone!
  8. Let's see if there are any old school folks out there!: I can't recall now if it was 1999 or 2000, but I think it was 1999. I and a couple of friends decided to trek to Murfreesboro for this show (before it was really "tour of champions" I think!), but still a great show. We decided to stay in Nashville, and enjoy the weekend, driving down to M-boro for the show. On the day of the show, we left Nashville mid-afternoon with plenty of time to get to Murfreesboro, eat dinner somewhere, and explore souvie booths, take in the show, etc. But, alas, on the Interstate, I-24, somewhere about halfway in between, traffic came to a standstill in all lanes. It was 90+ degrees outside. We waited and waited. We cut off the engines, got out of our cars, parked on the interstate...all lanes were stopped. Everyone was outside, playing volleyball in the median, going to the bathroom off the sides of the road, etc. We walked at least 1.5 miles on the highway leaving our car behind, parked on the interstate, and back without traffic ever moving. People were walking and talking all over the highway, many of whom were all headed to the show in Murfreesboro. Unfortunately, sadly, there had been a tragic wreck near an exit several miles down the road that involved several vehicles and blocked the entire highway. I have never seen anything like it. Eventually, a couple of hours later, traffic restarted and we got there, without dinner, but safely, about 1/3 or later into the show, and ate food at the stadium. I have never seen anything like this traffic-wise before or since. I am so sad that it was due to a tragic accident, but I am still amazed at the number of cars on a multi-lane interstate, parked, engines off, for hours, and people out walking, talking, drinking beers, etc. People I've told about this often think I'm telling a "tall tale", and this was before the era of cell phone photos and videos to document!! Anybody out there remember this??
  9. "In 2006, a state-of-the-art, "next generation" FieldTurf surface was installed to give the Deacons a top-notch and beautiful playing field year round." https://godeacs.com/facilities/truist-field/4 Go Deacs!!
  10. It's interesting the directions that we seem to be taking in this thread. Some said it is hard "not" to answer "safety and inclusion" - there is a reason for that. I am a long-time fan of the activity, but I don't see how we can make much headway without addressing issues of safety and inclusion first and foremost. The difficulty is that it is complex to discuss how to address these issues. It is possible that we could address the other four - leadership, competition models, touring models, and financial stability - ostensibly without addressing safety and inclusion, but to what purpose. If safety and inclusion are not foremost in our priorities to address, then we do not have an activity worth supporting. If we do become focused on improving safety and inclusion, it seems that we also have to look at leadership, financial stability, touring models, and even competition models with new eyes, which might help overall. JMHO.
  11. Spot on recommendations about Moon River, IMHO. Hehe...as for the glissandos, I think that they should have stopped after Cavies did 'em in Men are from Mars with the mash-up of Mars and I Did It My Way...that was way cool, stop, enough done!!
  12. I hear you, but that's not my perspective. I have seen all three multiple times now, albeit all on Flo or at the movies! I think that Crown always performs the heck out of their show, and their brass and guard are impeccable, but the show started out ahead of BAC but has not developed in the same way that BAC has become a more cohesive whole. To me, it's the gestalt, the whole is becoming more than the sum of its parts, and that is what I sense with BAC. Crown's is moving there, and so is Bloo, but BAC's seems at a higher, more cohesive level. BD--performance level is so high, but I am also not sensing that the show's cohesiveness has found its peak yet.
  13. Very astute summary. Not as sure about the percussion, but agree on the brass, the color guard, and BD nailing the body movement, carriage, and marching. That alone could give BD the GE tonight, but to me, the better overall GE of the show went to BAC. BD performs the heck out of the show though. Haven't fallen in love with this version of Moon River yet. Trombone (tonight's problems withstanding) part has quite clicked in place yet all the way through.
  14. I am with you...BD is amazing in performance and everything seems in sync, but the show is not gelling as much for me as BAC's...I think they can do it.
  15. I have not seen anyone post this, but the Prologue is beautiful to keep in mind when seeing and listening to BAC's interpretation of the thematic Paradise Lost. Beautifully crafted and performed show, BAC!! Of Man’s first disobedience, and the fruit Of that forbidden tree whose mortal taste Brought death into the World, and all our woe, With loss of Eden, till one greater Man Restore us, and regain the blissful seat, Sing, Heavenly Muse, that, on the secret top Of Oreb, or of Sinai, didst inspire That shepherd who first taught the chosen seed In the beginning how the heavens and earth Rose out of Chaos: or, if Sion hill Delight thee more, and Siloa’s brook that flowed Fast by the oracle of God, I thence Invoke thy aid to my adventurous song, That with no middle flight intends to soar Above th’ Aonian mount, while it pursues Things unattempted yet in prose or rhyme. And chiefly thou, O Spirit, that dost prefer Before all temples th’ upright heart and pure, Instruct me, for thou know’st; thou from the first Wast present, and, with mighty wings outspread, Dove-like sat’st brooding on the vast Abyss, And mad’st it pregnant: what in me is dark Illumine, what is low raise and support; That, to the height of this great argument, I may assert Eternal Providence, And justify the ways of God to men.
  16. Love the treatment of "What a wonderful world!" Always thought that the Cavies Mad World show treatment would be the pinnacle--this is equally as good, just a completely different flavor! First time I've noticed at the end of the Wonderful World, the hand gestures in the guard member and the horns to symbolize the serpent and trying to repel it, right before the percussion starts snaking through the visual garden...
  17. Way to start out, BAC! Seems like a jump both in sophistication of design and performance level. First time it hit me that this is a show that could medal! Loving it...
  18. I am tempted to make some suggestions of 15-minutes of trouble worth getting into, but I fear those posts would be deleted!! 😜
  19. OK, I feel incredibly "slow" about now...I am a huge Cavies fan--always have been, always will be--as well as other corps, and the activity in general. But, I have not been the biggest fan of the Cavies show this year--not considering the COVID, and the heroic effort of these members and staff!!!! The show has slowly grown on me, and each time they performed in the last week, it has improved and clarified a little bit each time. As JWillis said, not sure where they will place, but that does not matter--what matters is the heart and development of talent that these young members have shown in the course of a very difficult summer. Now, all that said--why do I feel "slow"? I, along with others on these fora, have lamented the brevity of their "jam" session about 3/4 in the show. Until tonight, I did not get that they were replicating TikTok. I feel like a dummy...I still wish it did not seem disjointed and maybe, it has just taken me until now to figure out that they are telling us that it's a Tik Tok, but somehow I wish they could slide into and out of that segment with a little more connectivity, or maybe that's the point, that often a TikTok video is an abrupt disruption??? Feel free to correct my slow understanding of this segment! DOH!!
  20. Love me some Little Fugue as well, and I like how they integrate it throughout. I am not in love with the rest of the musical selections overall. I'll keep listening though!! (*And I really miss some of the most amazing drill for which they were once known!!) But, that said, they have had some years recently that I love, including the Macabre, News, Men are from Mars, and Irish Wrong Side of the Track shows!
  21. I agree; fingers crossed. The complexity of that clip is that the horns are doing some pretty incredible playing there, but if the flags are not crisply in sync, then it takes away from the "wow" moment of the horn licks in the tempo changes. Let's hope it all starts to sync even more cleanly as each day goes on!!
  22. I like it too the more I see and hear it. I will admit that it's not my favorite musical book they've had, nor my favorite visual/thematic design. But, it is getting better and better "post-COVID" and starting to get some of that Cavies swagger.
