  3.

Ron Gunn would like to reconnect with you. Please call or text at: 315-289-4553. He needs tickets.

  4. How do I delete a post from The Marketplace after item is sold?
  5. I don't know about you but I'm waiting for the first G7 World Championships. Would prelims cut the field to the top 6? How about semi-finals to the top 4? Can you feel the drama building? Can you hardly wait for a finals week (or is it day)like this? Is this how it might be AFTER the same 7 corps tour all summer, making the results even more predictable than they are now? (Of course, this assumes that a G7 tour would even have judging and not be just an exhibition tour.) I, and I hope you, sincerely hope our activity never comes to anything approaching, what at least for now, are just a bunch of facetious possibilities.
  6. I can understand the G7 wanting more voting power in DCI or splitting off on their own. I'm sure what they feel is a reasonable economic model for them is far from what it is for the 20th ranked World Class corps and definitely what it is for Open Class. There's also no doubt that that these are the corps that the vast majority of drum corps fans travel many miles at great expense to see. What I'd like to hear is what changes the G7 want done to the activity that they feel cannot currently be passed in DCI. Also, do they feel they can be economically sound with just their 7 touring corps and a 7 corps championship if it comes to that? Would there even be a championship (or even judging!) or would there be just exhibitions? I think we need answers to these questions before we can realistically evaluate the proposal by Hopkins.
  7. Concerning my post on page on page 1 yesterday, I was just informed that OP means Original Poster and not Post. (Oops!) I meant to refer only to the intelligence of the idea and not the person, and did not mean it to be a personal attack of any sort. Sorry if it was interpteted that way. (Feel free to remove some of the 10 million minuses I got if you wish).
  8. I didn't call anyone stupid. I said his post was. Saying a certain idea is stupid is a criticism of that thought, not a criticism of the person who made it.
  9. Just saying --- I never mentioned anything about BD or DADA in my post. YOU DID. I also appreciate the BD show for it's quality but is it the direction we want drum corps to go in? I think we both can agree it's not.
  10. The OP has to be the stupidest one ever on DCP --- and that's saying something. I don't see how you can call yourself a traditionalist and basically want no rules for the activity. I'm hoping you're being sarcastic but I fear you're not. There would be no "either or" whether this would destroy drum corps or not --- IT WOULD!!! I think you should hop on one of those jet packs you mentioned and go find another pastime to ruin. 8/15 Edit: I was just informed that OP means Original Poster and not Post. I meant to refer only to the intelligence of the idea and not the person, and did not mean it to be a personal attack of any sort. Sorry if it was interpteted that way.
  11. I definitely think that DCI missed the boat in their new so-called fan-friendly judging system. IMHO most fans (and not just "dinosaurs") believe that a well-executed and innovative marching show should be rewarded more than a show with less marching that uses props to literally prop-up their visual effectiveness. I agree that we are really getting away from our roots by doing this --- we still call ourselves drum corps, right? You don't have to look any farther than the Olympics to see that in international sports that difficulty is essential in achieving a good score. In gymnastics, for example, you start with a maximum score based on difficulty, and then you are judged on how well you execute it. Yes, you can add to your score for unique artistic moves as well --- but it is secondary to difficulty and execution. I'm not saying by any means that I want to see artistic growth stunted in drum corps, but we shouldn't be getting further and further away from what makes this activity really special --- great brass, percussion and MARCHING!
  12. To even question Mike Boo's credentials for writing his blogs is ridiculous beyond words. He is one of the most knowledgeable and insightful writers to ever grace the drum corps genre. His blogs, in my opinion, have always been "the next best thing to being there". I believe he has bent over backwards to be fair and positve to corps and when he does make a criticism it usually is "spot on" and constructive in nature. In fact, as far as prejudice is concerned, he has probably been more critical of his Cavaliers than about anyone I've read. Also, his often quirky humor keeps the blogs from being a dull play-by-play account, which it would almost surely be in most writer's hands. To further demonstrate what a great writer he is, he even has me appreciating Blue Devils show and has me look forward to seeing them again after leaving me pretty cold upon first look. Keep up the great work Mike!
  13. I couldn't agree more that the narration "muddies the show....and takes away from the brilliant brass and percussion performances". At Rockford, that was exactly my impression --- especially the first few minutes. I was literally straining to try to hear the quality of the brass and instead was hearing some annoying and to me unnecessary narration. I don't understand how a brass or musical analysis judge could possibly be impressed by this. Does the thought process go "Well...the Blue Devils are doing this so it must be good!?". Is it like "The Emperor's New Clothes" where you know something is wrong but everyone is afraid to say (and be criticized by their peers)"? I sincerely hope not. Somehow, I just have the feeling that if a "lesser" corps played over narration in a similar fashion they would get "killed" by the judges.
  14. First of all, I think most corps have made great strides in making their shows more entertaining in recent years. Of course, what is entertaining is always going to be a subjective thing. I happen to know that over60's favorite corps (and mine) happens to be a certain one that is playing music from an opera this year which I dare say the general public would think is the dullest thing on earth. Also, if a corps believes they are in, say, the 4th to 9th range do they tailor their show more toward the judge's standards and go for a top placing, or toward the audience's to make it more likely they make finals? The idea of having the top 6 basically playing by different rules than the 7-12 corps is simply not a workable idea. Corps would have to have a show designed to appeal to both the judges and the general audience which I believe most corps are striving to do rather successfully today anyway.
  15. It was also "difficult" being out $57 last night for two tickets last night along with hundreds of other people. Shouldn't there have been at least a standstill exhibition in the gym so people got some bang for the buck? (A security guy in the stadium told me there wasn't going to be one --- I apologize if there was).
  16. Ticketmaster offers the "best seat available" but you can't choose your own seat. Of course DCI can do something about it! They didn't make these seats available in November but they're mysteriously and unfairly available to people that are just buying now.
  17. Isn't anyone bothered by the fact that people (meaning me) who bought tickets in November and received 4th level seats on the goal line while great seats (at the same price level) are available just days before the show? How fair is this "policy"? Why were tix held back? Would appreciate any responses --- especially from DCI. (I did inquire about this on DCI's Facebook page age and got a "stock" answer of we'll help you get good seats if you call us --- a little late now since I doubt if they would buy back the original purchase.)
  18. There was another interesting thing about the "open-roof" Colts' game last Friday (with temps in the upper 80s) as mentioned in the OP. On the NFL Network broadcast of the game , the local Indy station advertised that it was running a contest in which the winner would get 2 tix to a Colt's game and also get to press a button to open the roof. Doesn't seem like a big deal (or expense) to them does it!
  19. I was at the Normal show and I thought the transition from "Somewhere" to the Copland piece was very effective. It appeared to me (upon my first live hearing) that they converted from playing "Somewhere" to gradually playing the awesome Copland piece from left to right in ever growing ensembles until the whole line was playing it. It was extremely unique and a had a huge effect on the crowd. Crown definitely deserved the win. (And this comes from a huge Phantom phan!)
