  1. I can be reached via email at aldrichthorpe@gmail.com or you can reply through the DCP post or if you wish to chat my cell is 412-627-2538.
  2. I am working on a Drum Corps World article on Melissa "Mely" Salguero the 2018 Grammy Educator Of The Year. I have a ton of material from the hundreds of interviews and stories about her life leading up to her Grammy. What is missing is her time in the marching arts as a member of the Americans in 2000 and the Boston Crusaders 2001-2004. I will be interviewing her in a few days, but what I seek is quotes from people who marched with her. Also, if you have a question that you would like me to ask her. If you have any interesting or funny anecdotes I would love to hear from you. Thanks!
  3. I was looking at the lineup for the DCI Eastern Classic for Friday evening when I noticed one of the units was Calvacade of Bands, Harrisburg, PA. I had to do a double take to be sure I realized what I was reading. So why are they listed? Are they an opening or closing act for Friday? Calvacade of Bands is usually an association, will this be a conglomerate of band performers under the Calvacade flag? The world (at least the drum corps world) deserves to know!
  4. I am working on a DCW article that looks at drum corps either as a positive or negative venue for people who may suffer from depression. I started this article because of the tragedy of the Broken Arrow band student that fell to his death from the top of the stadium. I began to research how the marching arts has or could play a role with people who has/have suffered with diagnosed or undiagnosed depression. So I am reaching out to the community for your help. The main question is this, do you or do you know of anyone that suffered with depression and how did the corps play a role. I am not looking to out anyone, so your comments will be anonymous. I just want to see if my research on this subject meets up to reality. We have all heard the myriad of stories of how dc saved people from taking a different road in life and how it changed them. I am looking for similar stories but with people who were or felt depressed and what dc offed them. I know this is quite a serious subject and I promise that the focus will be handled delicately. To that end, if you want to reach out to me, please email me at aldrichthorpe@gmail.com. Thanks for considering my request.

  8. Now that the DCI Championship is a fine memory, it is now time to consider the DCA Championship in Rochester. I plan to be arriving there from Pittsburgh on Friday morning through Sunday over the Labor Day Weekend. Was wondering if anyone was interested in sharing either transportation and/or housing. Always looking to keep expenses in check. Send me a private message or call me at 412-627-2538

  11. I took a bunch (638) pictures at the show. Not sure this will work, but here they are for your review: https://1drv.ms/f/s!At9WguZxGCmjojq8zAu8m72HwlUQ The shots near the end are a little rough because the lights in the stadium are not that bright and I had to keep reducing the ISO to get the camera to work. Enjoy!
  12. Anyone in Pittsburg area looking or planning to go to the Johnsonburg PA DCI Open Class show (Blast in the Burg) this Saturday (July 29th)? I am going and looking to see if anyone would like to ride share to the show. If interested, please message me or send me an e-mail at aldrichthorpe@gmail.com
  13. Sorry, I had no idea you already posted this. I hadn't seen it updated on the main page. Oh well, maybe with two postings the main page will get updated. Good luck this season!
  14. To round out the 2017 shows/repertoires, I found this on the latest edition of DCW (http://drumcorpsworld/publications/2017/dcw-june-2017/) for Cincinnati Traditions: Show Title: "Lift" Music: "Come Sweet Death" by J.S. Bach; "Brothers In Arms" by Junkie XL; "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel; and "Auroa Awakens" by John Mackey
  15. Scores and placement please! Not posted on DCA web site yet! Based on Fran's review, I assume Bucs took first.
  16. ALLIANCE decided this weekend not to field a corps this season. Sad news!
  17. Just received this message: "Unfortunately, ALLIANCE went inactive this weekend and we will not be fielding a corps for 2017." This is sad news indeed. I hope they will be able to make it back for 2018!

  22. I am sure that Rochester will be in contention for future DCA Championships. I am also glad that it moves around to allow other cities to host and gives us all a change of scenery. I am looking forward to Williamsport, PA in 2018 and 2019. I hope they do a great job for the fans and the corps alike.
  23. I will be going to the DCA World Campionship and was wondering if anyone going would be interested in sharing a hotel room to curb some expenses? I was thinking of getting a room at the Hyatt to be close to the action. I will be arriving on Friday, September 2nd until Monday, September 5th. If you are interested, please email me at aldrichthorpe@gmail.com. Please let me know soon because rooms at the Hyatt are going fast.
