  1. Thanks, Mr. Paul... Yes, it is SUNDAY, JANUARY 29. All other info is correct.
  2. Well, Ryan...as you well know... An ounce of pretention is worth a pound of manure. ^0^ ^0^ ^0^ Words to live by this year...
  3. Here's how I'm voting...even though there are so many to choose from, I feel these choices best represent a wonderful, broad-spectrum of what drum has been since DCI came into being. 70's: TROOPERS - 1974 OAKLAND CRUSADERS - 1978 80's: BRIDGEMEN - 1980 GARFIELD CADETS - 1984 SUNCOAST SOUND - 1988 VELVET KNIGHTS - 1988 90's: STAR OF INDIANA - 1993 PHANTOM REGIMENT - 1993 MADISON SCOUTS - 1995 SANTA CLARA VANGUARD - 1999 00's: CAROLINA CROWN - 2003 CAVALIERS - 2004

  5. I just sent the following to ABC programming. While only allowed 500 characters, I felt it was necessary, in light of the pathetic coverage on yesterday's Disney World Promotional Video...uh, I mean Christmas Parade. ^0^ ^0^ ^0^ I am writing to voice my extreme displeasure at your Disney Christmas Parade coverage, most notably with the coverage of the Drum Corps International Honor Corps. That you had this group on television for a total of around 10 seconds before cutting to a commercial was ridiculous. Wasn't this supposed to be a parade? What I witnessed was nothing more than a Disney World promo video. The members of the corps paid good money to be there. ABC could have at least given more time on camera. I suggest others join in writing. ABC.com
  6. Pretention was not intended...nor, is anyone from our organization claiming we're going to win anything...however, we are confident that we are going to have a good corps, that is also going to be entertaining. If that sounds pretentious, we're sorry...but, you shouldn't try to read so much into the posting.
  7. I'm confident that we'll have the horns to pull off this show... Plus, with the staff additions (we'll be announcing the Brass Caption Head soon), we have the makings of one helluva fun/good year.
  8. From a Mystikal press release... NEWBURY PARK, CA The year is 2106. Humanity is under the rule of Machines; artificial intelligence that demands that humans conform to a uniform, mechanical way of life. Individuality no longer exists. Humanity is not allowed to act for itself, think for itself, or live for itself. The common whole is the only way to live without regard to self, or free thought. However, humanity is complex, as are the creatures who comprise it. While it might seem easy to squelch individuality, humans have a pressing self determination; a desire to live their lives according to the dictates of their own conscience. The 2006 edition of Mystikal will explore this battle of Man vs. Machine, and tell the story of the mythical war of 2106, with their production of “Utopia: The Perfect Society?” Using a divergent and clashing style of music to mirror the warring and conflicted visual program, Mystikal will feature music from the movies “Speed” and “The Chronicles of Riddick,” along with Aaron Copeland’s, “Fanfare for the Common Man,” and supporting original themes from John Meehan and Bill Garcia, to tell the tale of a perfect society gone awry by the humans who are determined to make a better life for themselves, and a better society. From California to Madison, and points in between, you will not want to miss Mystikal’s epic march to the DCI Championships with this epic story. Look for Utopia at a stadium near you in 2006
  9. MYSTIKAL 2006 is ready to roll!!! And, it all starts with our annual Open House, Saturday, December 18, from 1:00-4:00pm at Newbury Park High School. Come meet the staff and Board of Directors, learn about our 2006 show and tour (we're going to Madison), and find out why we want you to be a part of our family. Then, you'll want to participate in our 2nd Annual Workshops, taking place on two Saturdays - January 8 & 22, from 10:00am - 4:00pm, also at Newbury Park High School. You'll learn from some of the best instructors in the activity, and learn about the "Mystikal Style" of music and movement...tuition for both days is only $60...which also gets you handbooks on warmup exercises (for either brass, percussion or guard), lunch both days, and a Mystikal Workshop t-shirt. Participants will also get a preview of the auditions, which will take place Saturday January 29, time to be announced soon. Be a part of the excitement as we continue to grow. For more information, check out website: www.mystikal-corps.org
  10. After having gotten to know Academy's entire staff, members, and support staff, I can safely say that they are ready for the next step...that being, goint to Madison. Can they win the whole enchilada? Of course they can...but so can many other corps. Will there operation be ready for the extended time on the road (extended from what they've already done the past couple of years)? Most definitely. They have acquired the resources (former Freelancers food truck, staff vehicles, etc) to make the trek to Madison, and to support them for years to come. More importantly, they have been picking the minds of the some of the top groups in DCI to learn what exactly it is going to take to make it long term. I have every confidence that Academy will be around for many years. Now, to say they haven't toured...give me a break...that's the same BS that has been piled on Pacific Crest: "they're not a real corps cause they don't do a real tour." I'm tired of hearing that the West Coast is not a real tour...they get on busses, they go from town to town, they eat PB&J, sleep on a gym floor, and rehearse to all hours of the night...hmmm, sounds like a real tour to me. Academy will have a great season this year, no matter what place they finish in, and no matter where they tour to. It's time to show the drum corps world just how prepared they are.
  11. Gee...you expect me to notice EVERYTHING in your post? (ok...so I didn't see it...my bad)...
  12. Where are you flying from? Nairobi, Kenya? Probably not... The airfares are generally cheaper to LA (5 airports within 40 miles of the Rose Bowl) than, say to BUFFALO, MADISON, or ORLANDO...plus, frequencies are greater and nonstops more available (please, Madison doesn't know the meaning of the words Nonstop Flight)... Oh, and at the store tonight, I paid a total of $3.29 for a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk...
  13. I didn't realize Whitewater was in Indiana...I alway thought it was in Wisconsin... And, there is NO WAY I'D EVER GO TO FINALS IN A DOME (just my opinion)...
  14. As someone who has been to both a lot of Drum Corps shows, AND the Rose Bowl many times (including TOC last year), I have to respectfully disagree with the original poster, but do understand the issue of the Bowl-type stadium (I never heard any buzzing by the stadium lights, and I was about 2/3 way up on the 45yd line)... The Bowl shape will not be as wonderful as sitting on the second level of Arrowhead Stadium, but it also won't be as bad a people think...ToC was pretty dang good for the most part and the shows were all readable (drill wise)... More importantly, while Jack Murphy (re: Qualcomm) might have been a better stadium, hey...DCI is finally coming to the West and it's gonna be a great time for EVERYONE who comes out here to enjoy it...
  15. This show is definitely one of my all-time favorites. I remember seeing it at championships...WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SHOW!!! The emotion portrayed on the field was amazing...so much so that I was actually tearing up at the end. Absolutely awesome!!! As for Suncoast in general...this corps was pretty much underrated their entire existence, even in the years when the scored high. Some of the most memoriable moments come from this corps, such as: 1984 - the mock Vietnam Memorial wall & a great Aquarius 1985 - the original piece, "A Florida Suite"...from what I can remember, the first time original music was used. 1986 - One of the all-time best brass lines playing Adventures in Time. 1988 - Another original masterpiece (at least, imho) Like others, I really miss this corps, and what they contributed to our activity. Just my 2 cents...
  16. One of the all-time classiest drum majors, and someone who embodies what Santa Clara means... He is an AWESOME CHOICE!!!! I wish Jeff all the best for a successful tenure with the Vanguard!!! I know I'll get flamed for this, but... Consider me a charter member of the 2006 SANTA CLARA VANGUARD APPRECIATION SOCIETY
  17. Let's see... Jim Casella to Cavaliers Myron Rosander to Madison Rick Valenzuela to Phantom Hmmm... The Midwest seems to be capitalizing on some incredibly talented, and suddenly available staff... I sure as h*** hope the powers that be @ SCV know what they are doing.
  18. As a member of SCV in '86, I can honestly say that I don't remember Valley Fever being at any of the shows that corpsreps says they were at. Now, maybe it's premature Alzheimer's, or just simple brain fry, but I really don't remember seeing them that year (and there were supposedly several shows that both SCV & VF were at)...
  19. Then I stand corrected...but, I could have sworn they weren't around that year... My bad...
  20. I think it's Corpsreps that is isn't correct, because that site also says that Valley Fever existed in 1986, and they didn't either.
  21. Actually, Crossmen did take a year off - 1986 - and came back to the competition field.
  22. Like the vast majority of drum corps fans who remember the Troop during some of their glory years, this news is a seriously hard gut punch. They were one of the first corps I remember seeing live and have always loved their style and tradition... So, as my way of keeping the Troopers alive, I'm changing my avatar... While they might not be on the field this next season, they won't be out of our thoughts... KEEP THE TROOP ALIVE!!! Post edited to remove attacking material-JAS
  23. Don't know about official statements, but... DCI's January Meeting IS taking place in Pasadena... Coincidence?
  24. 2005 - 18 Horns 25 Percussion 20 Guard 2 DM Definitely would prefer closer to 30 horns, the other numbers are good...
