  1. I thought I start a thread of inks to live feeds of the hornline, drumline, front ensemble, and guard warm ups. To keep things kosher, let's stay away from posting live show feeds. Let's keep it to live video from the parking lot.
  2. Due to the impending winter storm, The Skyliners have moved their Open House to Sunday, February 3rd.

Graduating from West Chester University with dual majors in Early Grades Preparation and Special Education and a minor in Reading in December 2017, Mary has been teaching Special Education since January 2018, and color guard since the fall of 2015. Mary started her performing career as a founding member of the Madison High School Marching Dodgers color guard, which ignited her passion for the activity and for teaching. Mary continued her color guard career after high school through joining the Cadets2 color guard and West Chester University Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band color guard in 2013. She continued to perform with C2 for 2013-2015 and 2017-2018, and West Chester for 2013-2016, serving one year as captain. 5. A non drum corps friend expressed concern and dislike for the use of rifles by color guards, particularly in light of the frequent unfortunate events of the past few years. To me, and likely to other long-timers, a drum corps rifle seems as harmless looking as a flag/silk. There is no emotional reaction. What do others think? Does the type of equipment used, such as rifles and sabers, somehow send or perpetuate an undesirable message? I promised to post this and gather your reactions. Note: talk of politics and religion are not allowed on DCP, so let's try not to descend into that for the sake of the conversation. Thanks
  6. Can someone please help me plan corps style color guard camp (flags)? There will be 6 experienced girls and 4 brand new. The old ones know the opener, and the new ones just know a few fundamentals from tryouts. We will meet 4 days from 9:00 to noon before band camp week starts, at which time they will work with the band from 9:00 to noon, and then practice alone from 1:00-4:00. I am a band director, not a guard person. We have a capable captain, and occasional outside help, but I need to have a game plan on how much time to spend on fundamentals, and how much time to spend on the opening routine (which actually uses the swing flags). I need to know how to plan these 3 hour blocks for maximum effectiveness, with a mix of fundamentals and the routines (which we have on video broken down by an instructor). The show is from Marching Show Concepts, but I think the routine is from someone else. I know I am asking for free help, but I would like an experienced instructor to answer me.

  8. Hey beautiful people! So here are my thoughts. I've been living in Vegas for a year now and there is not much of a WGI presence out here. UNLV has an IO guard but that's the extent of it. I want to start an IW guard here (and maybe IO, IA and scholastic if the interest dictates). My previous groups used bingo halls for funding as many do. I have some connections with a number of businesses out here that may be willing to help with initial start up. I was thinking that since the casino/gambling industry is so large out here, perhaps one or more companies would be willing to sponsor us if we advertise for them. There is a strong sense of community and local support in this city and it could potentially make the difference. I am also curious as to how many people in the area would be interested in this. Are there others here who want a world guard? Has this been attempted before in this area? Are there people who want to teach and march? Help with competitions and the like? Everything in between? I marched Bluecoats, Empire Statesmen and Patriots IO (including others that do not have name recognition so I won't list them). Drop some words if you have the desire! Let's make something cool!
  9. DUE TO INCOMING SNOW AND WINTER WEATHER, THE SKYLINERS ' MARCH 3/4 REHEARSALS CANCELLED Due to the pending Nor'easter heading our way, The Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps has cancelled rehearsals for this weekend. For more information about upcoming camps and events, please go to MARCHSKY.ORG
  10. I’ve been wondering how people in DCI learn drill, do they give it to them prior to them getting on the field so they can study it , or do they have it on the field and go from set to set , or is there another method to it ? Also , how does the colorguard write the show ? Do they write it beforehand and then just apply it to the field or do they write it ON the field at the moment? Last question , when do they determine who is in which lines ( like flag line , rifle line , sabre line ) ?
