For Sale: Complete Marching Battery Line. Used ONE season for INDOOR. 7 Snare (14x13), 4 Tenor (6,6,8,10,12,13), and 5 Basses (18,20,22,24,26) with carriers. Asking $8000 (plus shipping) but may be negotiable to assist with shipping. Located in Chicago area. Now that the formalities are done, these are Melhart drums that were used by NEXUS Indoor for the 2014 season. As part of our sponsorship with Melhart, we have been authorized to sell the equipment in lieu of shipping back to the company. Centurions Camp Weekend this Saturday and Sunday April 26th and 27th! The Centurions will be holding their first outdoor rehearsal of the season this weekend. We will be learning the drill for the opener of our 2014 program "The Journey." The show consists of Fountains of Rome, March Slav, The Young Prince and the Young Princess from Scheherazade, and Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah. We have a few openings left to fill for two soprano/trumpets, two baritones, as well as select spots in battery, pit, and guard. The Centurions offer one of the lowest dues of any competing drum corps as well as a reasonable schedule, we rehearse every Saturday (starting May 10th) and only one Sunday per month. We have a hard working membership and staff that has been involved in drum corps at all levels...we are all striving to put out the best possible product we can! I just watched Cavalier's 2008 (kick-azz) show, and noticed something intriguing in their front ensemble, aka, the pit. During the show, a pit member played what looked like a flute or recorder of some sort. You know, a woodwind. At another point, a pit member played something like a zither or hammered dulcimer, which is a STRINGED instrument (albeit struck with mallets). (seen at 4:32 on Fan Network finals video) I just read the DCI rule book (2009 edition), which states the front ensemble can play any membraned or keyed instrument. Made no mention of woodwinds or strings. But there was no statement saying that the pit was forbidden to play such things either. So what exactly is the limit, if any, in the pit? Have the judges simply overlooked infractions in the pit? Could a front ensemble play a clarinet or a concert harp if the mood struck them? More importantly, could the pit play bagpipes?? (please say yes!) A side question: How come the pit does not wear hats?

Are you in the NYC/tristate area and want to march Drum Corps? Crimson Kings Drum Corps RECRUITING BRASS, FIFE, DRUMS and COLOR GUARD for Soundsport this summer. Who we are… For those of you who may not have heard of us, we are the Crimson Kings Drum Corps. We are a junior corps established in 1953, our history is of award winning competitions, championships and exhibitions, one of the only remaining New York City Drum corps, we march with the classic G bugle sound. Practices are “weekends only” and are conveniently located in NYC Chinatown. We offer a lighter rehearsal schedule and one of the lowest dues of any competing drum corps. If you want to march but are not sure if you have the time or money, we may be the corps for you! We have a dedicated, friendly staff and membership that have been involved in the activity at all levels. Some of these corps present and past members and staff have marched/taught include the Cadets, Cadets2, Buccaneers, Caballeros, Norwalk Drum Corps, Cadets of New York. We work hard but also have a great time! Our 2014 soundsport show includes well known classic drum corps themes and selections from Joe Hisaishi(castles in the sky, Spirited away). Our members are having a great time learning these pieces, which are popular in both the classical and drum corps world, and we know that the audience and judges will love them too! Thanks! =) As we continue to grow the Crimson Kings, we are seeking a Lead drum instructor to teach and expand our drumline in the heart of New York City’s Chinatown. You must have a clean record and experience teaching youth groups ages 10 to 22. You should be a patient team player with initiative interested in assisting further development of field and front ensemble percussion programs. You are enthusiastic, work well with youths, and love everything there is to love about drum corps activities. You will be responsible for teaching a range of experience levels but mostly beginners, creating music, routines, recruiting, and working towards developing an advanced field and pit percussion program. Experience with drum corps, DCA, DCI, winter units and/or marching band is ideal though we are open to similar type experiences. Please list any relevant experience in music and marching music percussion arranging/writing for keyboard percussion and field percussion. Being multilingual is a plus in either Chinese and/or Spanish but not a requirement. This is a part-time position with a year-round schedule.
