Is there any open class Corps still looking to hire Brass Staff?

I don't think this has been asked for a while and I forgot to check at the Regional last night, but which Corps use both baritones and euphoniums in their brass line? Edit: Also would be interested to know of any Corps marching only euphoniums.

Some friends and I are planning on trying out for some drum cores (crown and SOA more than likely) and were wondering if there is anything we can do to prepare ourselves for audition camps, what materials to know when going in, what to practice, and where to find the materials and exercise to practice (not talking about audition packets).

It is readily becoming apparent this season that the new trend of amplifying entire hornlines (or large ensembles) is not sitting well with the fanbase. I have seen many calls for either the judges to limit rewarding or even penalize amplification of this magnitude, I've seen calls for DCI to change rules to better define what can and can't be done. All this clamoring will not do anything if confined to DCP. Action is what brings change. I ask the community, the fans, parents, and alumni, for help in drafting an open letter to DCI. We obviously have concerns, let us voice them directly. Being able to sign on to the letter will obviously be important, as there is strength in numbers. It should be disseminated as far as possible as well: to Reddit, at shows, etc. I do not know a platform that will facilitate this, so help here is appreciated. Below, I've typed out an example of what this could look like. Please help me flesh it out a bit. I will consider all criticism, as long as it is constructive. And please, keep the subject to amplification and electronics usage, this is not the proper time for an argument about rights, streaming, the fan network, etc.

I've noticed several Corps are continuing to use trombones in their shows, even adding them to the drill. The following article (though quite old) just popped up on a trombone fan page I monitor on Facebook. I just thought it was interesting. Maybe that explains the looks I get from the French horn section who sit in front of me. (Or was it the intonation?) BBC Article: Shock wave from trombone filmed.

The Skyliners just came off another GREAT, albeit wet weekend. The show is starting to take shape. Our excellent design team has outdone themselves! We have a few openings in the horn line (1 Trumpet, 2 Mellophones, 3 Baritones, 1 Tuba), Vibraphone players for the front ensemble, and the Sky Guard is looking for one experienced weapon and one flag. NOW is a great time to be a part of the Skyliners!

I have been listening to a lot of Crown years over the past few days and it has me thinking; Is Michael Klesch the absolute BEST brass writer in DCI? I mean is there anyone else who can even touch is fantastic writing? Clearly, this is just a matter of opinion and I am absolutely sure there are writers that are just as fantastic. I am just saying, there is no other brass section I would rather listen to more in today's drum corps than Carolina Crown, and Klesch's arrangements over the years have been nothing less than stellar. And although they placed 5th in that Space show, I still find myself listening to that show relatively frequently. **This is not intended as a bashing session against other brass arrangers, rather, it is a heavy praise for someone who has given us years of spectacular musical arrangements.** I'm loving some Klesch.

I am a pretty decent mellophone player already (if i say so myself), but i want to know how to become the best I can possibly be. I am trying out for DCI this fall/winter and want to come fully prepared. Any and all tips will be acknowledged. What can I do to improve my tone, range, musicality, sight reading, or tuning. You do NOT have to be a mellophone payer for me to listen. Again any info/tips will be used.

Hey guys, I marched baritone last year and I regret not marching again. I hate looking in from the outside. That being said, are there any baritone or euph holes at any world class corps?

This will be my second year being a section leader in my school's mellophone section and the other day I was watching one of our videos and noticed how out of tune we are with eachother. Is there anything I can do to fix this or improve it? It will be my senior year and want this to be our best year. better view but older competition

I plan on trying out for spirit of Atlanta for my first year in DCI and was wondering on how selective it was for mellophone in particular. I'm going to give it my all no matter what but I was just curious. Also, any tips for preparing for auditions and the auditions themselves would be incredibly appreciated!

Learning Baritone to march DCI! Hello everyone! This post will serve as my personal log in my adventure to learn baritone in an effort to one day march drum corps. If this disrespects any guidelines of the forums, feel free to let me know and I'll remove accordingly. A little about me: First musical instrument I learned was the saxophone I have been playing the saxophone for 7 years (3 years alto, 4 years tenor, with some soprano and bari thrown in) I'm 18 years old and about to graduate high school (today actually!) First learned of DCI my freshman year and I've been hooked since Began learning euphonium in March of 2016 and I've performed in one concert on the instrument. (Bass clef) Goals: I'm going to college for Music Education During my college career, I hope to march drum corps (age-out Bluecoats?) I will be marching baritone next year for my college, so I hope that goes well Be proficient enough at the baritone to attend a DCI camp in the fall of 2016 Goal Corps: March World Class in 2018 Age-Out Bluecoats in 2019 Gear: Yamaha YBH301M Marching Baritone (Large Bore) Vincent Bach 5G Mouthpiece That's about it! All proceeding posts will be updates of some sort. I know these are some pretty ambitious goals. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, especially if you've gone through a similar process. The Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps' Open House this past Saturday was a tremendous success, and an exciting beginning for the corps' 2017 competitive season. Shane Startzel, Brass Caption Head, assisted by Joe Wilt, Assistant Brass Caption Head, led the brass instruction, supported by 2017 Brass Staff. After warm-ups, the horn line worked through the "Lost Boy" Ballad and the beginning of "Escape from Paradise" from The Skyliners' 2017 show "XSCAPE". Front and center was the inaugural use of B Flat System Blue brass by The Skyliners, which caused great excitement and anticipation. Brass Arranger John Meehan sent a special video greeting for Open House attendees. Percussion Caption Head Patsy Vankirk, Front Ensemble Coordinator Dr. Rick Wolfel, and the Percussion staff, led the Percussion through battery and front ensemble warm-ups. The talent level of the ensemble and the incredible interest will no doubt be a driving force for The Skyliners in 2017, and raise the bar even further than 2016. The Color Guard members in attendance were led by Brenda Peregrim, Color Guard Caption Head, James Branch, one of The Skyliners' Color Guard Designers and staff through stretching, movement, and flag and weapon work. At the end of the day, the guard members performed their routines for fellow corps members, giving the corps a taste of what to expect from this talented group of performers and designers. Jeff Crawford, Visual Caption Head and the 2017 Visual Staff introduced the Visual program to the attendees, working on ensemble and individual elements. A PT session introduced some of the exercises that members will focus on throughout the year, and a structure to an overall fitness program that will help develop and improve skills, fitness and endurance. The Skyliners thank everyone who attended today, everyone who helped set up, served lunch, cleaned up for the Open House, or helped in many ways to make it such a success.
