  1. Looks like there will be an announcement soon! Mods: If there is already an official 2016 thread, sorry could not find one. Delete this topic or merge.
  2. Any Chance of having a Forum for DCI Sound Sport, Drumline Battles and All Age DCI Corps? I ask because it appears Sound Sport is working as an incubator for developing new Junior and All Age Drum Corps. There is also some Alumni Corps Activity in the Sound Sport Arena as well. Thanks.
  3. I have 2 tickets for FINALS - Section 643 Row 20 Seats 1 & 2 on an aisle. Great seats for drill watchers! $79 each. They're on Stub Hub right now, but let me know if interested and I can sell outside of Stub Hub. Thanks!
  4. (I couldn't find a very good place to put this) I was watching a video of SCV practicing marching one day (I can't find the video again. I think it was 2014), and before they stepped off, they raised their horns up, which caused a clicking noise (akin to someone wearing a ring or something and clacking it around on the instrument. That's the best way I could describe it). The contras did it too, but it sounded like a bunch of real-life Transformers (it was super cool!). How do they do this?
  5. Keep in mind, I believe that only once the winner of this show has won the championship (going back to 2011 when all the corps participated the same day) That corps was the undefeated monster that was the 2014 Blue Devils. That being said, who do you think wins this show and do you think whoever wins this show will win it all? My prediction Blue Devils will win this show and Carolina Crown will go on to win in the finals. I could see Bluecoats also winning this show, but for some reason my mind has been made up about Crown winning this year since I saw the show at Muncie.
  6. Do any drum corps late in this season have any Bari euph holes? I'm sure they wouldn't advertise it but I just figured I'd ask and find out.
  7. There was a time when the troopers were in the top 3, a time when Crown was no body, a time when the Cavies dominated, Phantom rocked faces off, My question is "Who do you think is the next world class corps that no body is talking about now, that we could possibly be talking about as a title contender in 3 to 5 years?"
  8. New site has been collecting and posting DCI 2016 videos as they come out. 9. I got this in my inbox today due to my use of their services. No doubt this is an attempt to do some major PR control. I'm not sure what specifically made them want to send this out though. Maybe issues related to DCI, WGI, and MFA? "Dear #### I would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce Tresóna: who we are, what we do, and why we do it. Tresóna was started, and is currently staffed, by musicians, educators and music fans. We have created a simple and cost-effective licensing platform and are committed to protecting the rights of songwriters to make sure that they are rightfully compensated for their work. Thousands of hard-working songwriters and publishers are dependent on the royalties collected from the licensing of their music to survive. A vast majority of these publishers are small family businesses with one or two employees; they are not multi-national corporations. They are no different than the arrangers, choreographers, set designers, costume creators and thousands of others whose livelihood is dependent on a vibrant music industry. Music is the key ingredient and the foundation of all performance ensembles. Without songs, there would be no marching bands, show choirs, a cappella groups or any other musical performance group. The licensing of custom arrangements, which is required by the U.S. Copyright Act, is often one of the smallest line items in the budget of many ensemble programs. Most performance ensembles obtain the necessary licenses; however, there are some ensembles and organizations which refuse to do so. The abuse of the system by these groups for illicit financial gain has been shocking. There are large enterprises with ensembles that travel all over the country performing at both nonprofit and for-profit events. They pay enormous sums of money for choreographers, arrangers, contest entry, lighting, costumes, props and a host of other outside services. Despite having budgets of more than $500,000/year and generating surpluses of over $150,000/year, these organizations refuse to get the licenses they need and compensate songwriters for their songs. Rather than pay the relatively small licensing fee and promote proper licensing behavior, some ensembles have opted instead to retain high-priced lawyers and consultants to avoid obtaining the necessary licenses. When the dedication of this small group of ensembles deprives songwriters of their ability to make a living, Tresóna and the rights holders we represent are forced to defend these rights in court. When this happens, it is disappointing and begs the question: How can the community as a whole promote participation in the arts and suggest to students that a career in music is viable if it doesnt support the foundation of the entire music ecosystem - the songs and the songwriters? Tresóna is proud of the work we do and deeply value the excellent working relationships we have developed with thousands of arrangers, directors, music educators, parents and performers around the country. We are committed to partnering with, and listening to, the ensemble community so that we may grow these relationships, as well as nurture new ones. We thank you for your support and look forward to our continued relationship in the years to come. Best, Larry Mills EVP, Tresóna" ..... End of letter I absolutely understand the need for composers/arrangers/creators to be compensated. I also understand that there are groups (both scholastic and independent) that have extremely bloated design budgets. But in my opinion, this copyright situation is getting a bit out of hand, at least in regards to video performances. We are losing an opportunity to share with our younger generations the great performances organizations like DCI, WGI, and MFA have to offer. Our kids (and educators) are missing the ability to see their peers across the country achieve things that they didn't know were possible. I can't even purchase older BOA and WGI DVDs for our library anymore. What are your thoughts about what Tresona is saying?
  10. We're happy to announce that the home video release for our award winning documentary, "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood" is finally happening. Preorders for the DVD and the Ultimate Blu-ray Edition + DVD Combo Pack are now available on our website. The discs will ship in June, and these two versions of the film will be available for sale at the Madison Scouts souvie stand during the 2016 DCI tour. We've been blown away by the reactions to our film from both drum corps fans and from those who had previous never heard of the activity. Somehow we made the film work for both camps which was not an easy feat. Currently we have a user rating of 9.9 out of 10 stars on IMDb.com, which is pretty unheard of. There have been some very nice reviews written by people who've seen the film. If you preorder the home video version before May 31, 2016 you'll get free shipping on all orders within the USA. We are shipping the film internationally (not for free). Please note that the DVD is Region 1 and the Blu-ray is Region 0. There are no subtitles, and these are NTSC transfers. We've been making this movie on our own and we're self distributing it, therefore any boost we can get from the drum corps community is a giant help. Take a moment to share our movie trailer with your friends and let them know what you think about it. Thanks so much, Mac Smith Director/Producer - "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood"

  14. I marched with Troopers in the 80s and find I still enjoy following drum corps, not only nostalgia but also keeping up with present developments and competition. I make it out to 1-2 shows a year. I look forward to the discussion and reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.
  15. Does anyone know of any corps that have Drum Major or Field Conductor positions available?
  16. Hello drum corps family! My name is Kayla Cavano and I'm a Junior Music Education/French horn performance major at Miami University in OH. I have recently been contracted to march with The Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps and am looking for sponsors. With paying for school, rent, and many other expenses a typical college student has to pay, an additional $3,400 plus about $1,000 in flights to CA is too great an expense to bear alone. Marching with The Blue Devils has been my dream ever since I saw my first drum corps show in 2008. However, I can't do it by myself so I'm asking for your help. After just completing our February camp, it's safe to say that this summer is going to be incredible. Being a music education major, there is nothing more valuable than marching drum corps and working with some of the best staff not only in DCI, but in the instrumental music activity. I can't wait to learn from this staff and become a better musician, athlete and educator. Marching with The Blue Devils will give me the tools to change my future students' lives. We all remember the first drum corps show we saw. For me, it was 2008 Phantom Regiment that made me fall in love with the activity. I fell even deeper in love when I saw 2009 Blue Devils. I can't wait to have that effect on someone this year. If you are willing and able, please consider making a donation to help me march this summer. My GoFundMe page is attached below, but if you would like a letter sent in the mail, send me your address and I will send one out. Thank you so much for your consideration and for helping me make my dreams become reality! https://www.gofundme.com/dmk3u9y4

  21. Has the music rights issue permeated the DCI website's "Spotlight of The Week"? Normally there is a 2 minute video of the performance from the corp being spotlighted. But this week for the 1989 Freelancers, there's a video with background music and captions regarding their show, not the performance..

  23. Does anyone know why DCI has done away with the RSS feed for the Field Pass podcast? I have always listened to this via my podcast app of choice (Downcast for iOS), however about midway through this summer, it has seemingly disappeared and now the easiest way to listen on the go appears to be SoundCloud. Which is fine but a little more cumbersome than I would prefer (no episode names, just air dates, make it more difficult to remember where I left off; when catching up on multiple episodes, they play in reverse order). DCI has an RSS link on their site with a number of confusing feed options, e.g.: "Select a Sport (for photo feed):" with the only value for selection being Blue Knights. What? lol There is no mention whatsoever of an RSS feed for the Field Pass. Anyone else puzzled by this?
  24. I have 1 set of Yamaha tenor drums for sale. They we're used in the Cavies 2013 show. They show very light sign of wear and what little there is, it is very light and would take close examination to find. There was 1 scratch between drum 1 & 2 that has since been repaired. The hardware has been replaced and is now chrome. The drums are a glossy black finish with black interior shells. Yamaha pinstripes are on it and are in good condition. The configuration is 6-10-12-13-14. I'm selling with a cover, stand, Bi-posto/tublar hybrid Randall May carrier (Like used in the cavies 2013 show, No ABS support) Asking $1,100 Email me at mkarptv@gmail.com for photos
