  3. After seeing the Blue Stars and Crossmen compete neck and neck with eachother all season this year, I began to wonder which corps might be in that same situation next season where they are right next to each other in terms of scoring and placement. My tight grouping predictions for next season are the following: Blue Devils v.s. Santa Clara Vanguard Santa Clara Vanguard v.s. Carolina Crown Bluecoats v.s. Cavailers Cadets v.s. Blue Knights Phantom Regiment v.s. Blue Knights Blue Stars v.s. Crossmen Madison Scouts v.s. Mandarins Troopers v.s. Colts Blue Devils B v.s. Vanguard Cadets Gold v.s. Golden Empire Seattle Cascades v.s. Jersey Surf Jersey Surf v.s. Pioneer Music City v.s. Genesis Battalion v.s. Columbians Impulse v.s. Shadow Shadow v.s. River City Rhythm Les Stentors v.s. Impulse Pacific Crest v.s. Oregon Crusaders Colts v.s. Academy Oregon Crusaders v.s. Spirit of Atlanta Again, these are just my predictions. What are your predictions? Do any of your predictions match any of mine? Do you agree or disagree with my predictions? Please comment in this thread and we will find out!
  4. Hi everyone, I just noticed this but the 2017 Blue Knights video that drum corps international posted has disappeared. Does anyone know what happened?
  5. I thought it would be cool to start a weekly thread about what performances we loved and didn't love about each corps. For week 2 we are headed to Denver to celebrate and discuss the Blue Knights What are your top 1-5 all time Blue Knights shows? (Optional) What are your 1-3 least favorites from them? You can go into as much or little detail as you like but please please try to keep things positive! I am a huge BK fan so my long answer will come later today- I am pumped for this thread. For a quick recap in case you missed it and/or want to add your contributions: Week 1- Cavies- 2006 the Machine is the favorite and 2012 15 min of fame is the least favorite...for now. Week 2- Jersey Surf- right now the favorite is 2012 Bridgemania... it's pretty unanimous.
  6. Ten corps tonight, on the following schedule (MDT): 7:30 p.m. Thunder 7:47 p.m. Battalion 8:04 p.m. Columbians 8:21 p.m. Golden Empire 8:38 p.m. Gold 8:55 p.m. intermission 9:15 p.m. Cascades 9:32 p.m. Oregon Crusaders 9:49 p.m. Santa Clara Vanguard 10:06 p.m. Blue Devils 10:23 p.m. Blue Knights NWS says weather will be mostly clear, with temperatures dropping from about 88F to 78F over the course of the show. If you're there, please let us know about it!
  7. What an incredible show! Huge crowd, every Corps put forth a good show, and the weather cooled down in the evening. A perfect summer evening! Below are my thoughts. Feel free to ask questions. The talent level and performance of ALL corps is simply unreal - if anyone thinks Drum Corps is dying, well... you clearly aren't seeing what I am seeing. Wahoo! I didn't take notes, just writing from memory, so please forgive the lack of detail. Open Class Golden Empire - Bakersfield, CA -This Open Class corps is doing great things! I'm glad they are expanding their tour this year and hope they make it to championships next year. Blue Devils C - Concord, CA -Cute, Adorable. What else can you say? Blue Devils B - Concord, CA -Drumline is insane, rest of the show was good; I enjoyed it, but a lack of "wow moments" for me. Feels like the show has limited room to grow Vanguard Cadets - Santa Clara, CA -Great show! I had them slightly ahead of BDB tonight (just checked the scores, I was right!) I think this show has a lot of room to grow World Class Corps Mandarins - Sacramento, CA -They have been on a rise the past few years and continue that trend again this year. They have never looked or sounded this good, this early ever. A very special shout-out to the guard who is MILES ahead of previous years. The corps moves a lot this year which is an improvement from last year. I really wish they would stop using original music, which it is good, I feel like using relatable music might be the hook that pushes them up a few slots. I think they were better than Pacific Crest. It will be interesting to see where this show goes this year. The Academy - Tempe, AZ -Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night. The show connects so well with the audience, I believe it will be a fan favorite all season. Not only is the show entertaining, it looks beautiful and sounds beautiful. Unchained Melody was one of the most beautiful moments of the entire night. Huge crowd reaction! Call me crazy, but I think this show might be a dark horse to make finals. Pacific Crest - Diamond Bar, CA In the past, I feel like PC's show design has held this corps back - this year, I think it is much improved. Their show is called UNION and is about how the railroad connected America. I liked it, but I don't think there is enough there to propel the corps forward this year. Madison Scouts - Madison, WI Judas! This show had a,lot of power. Madison is starting very strong this year. Some good moments, especially when the crowd gets into the familiar music from Jesus Christ Superstar. Emotional show. Big step up this year for Madison. Very strong guard! Blue Devils - Concord, CA -The other surprise of the night (for me!) was that I enjoyed BD's show! They move A LOT. The guard spins A LOT. So much talent in this corps, especially the guard and drumline. I don't mean this as any kind of a knock, but I don't know if this show has the potential to win a championship. I feel like it's missing something to make it truly special. I fell like Bluecoats and Crown will be battling with BD all season. Santa Clara Vanguard - Santa Clara, CA -I call this show Elegant Nature. Very beautiful show. I know nothing about pit, but WOW - the their feature beginning of the show is so pretty. The hornline is FANTASTIC. So beautiful. I think this show was so enjoyable to watch. Not that they went anywhere, but I feel like SCV is back! Blue Knights - Denver, CO -I love glitter, so therefore I liked this show :) They sounded beautiful. I don't want to sound crazy, but I think they might have one of the strongest horn lines in DCI. The guard was also great and their multi-colored flags were so pretty. Some of the vocal tracks seemed a little disjointed, but perhaps it will all make sense once the full show is on the field.Their show wasn't finished, so it was hard to get a firm feel for it, but wow - what a great show!
  8. A couple of tight showdowns coming to DCI Arkansas (Little Rock). 1/10th separated Crossmen and Blue Stars and 5/100th separated OC and Mandarins in the previous evening at Broken Arrow, OK. Order of performance follows. 7:00 pm Mandarins 7:17 pm Jersey Surf 7:34 pm Pacific Crest 7:51 pm Oregon Crusaders 8:08 pm Colts 8:42 pm Crossmen 8:59 pm Blue Stars 9:16 pm Blue Knights 9:33 pm Santa Clara Vanguard
  9. Surprised not to see a thread yet for this show: DCI Dallas, presented by North Texas Festival of Drums Monday, July 20, 2015 -- 7:00 p.m. CDT Wildcat Ram Stadium Lake Highland High School 9449 Church Road Dallas, Texas 75238 Corps in performance order: Open Class Guardians Genesis World Class Mandarins Troopers Colts Crossmen Blue Stars Blue Knights Santa Clara Vanguard Blue Devils Source: DCI. If anyone has details on exact performance times or judges, by all means chime in. Most recent scores have BD at 87.300, SCV at 84.825, and BK at 81.900. It's pretty unlikely any of them will change positions, but what will their scores be? Will Stars catch Xmen? Will Colts catch Troop? How will Guardians do in their final performance this year? Inspiration for subject line:
  10. Surprised not to see a thread started yet for tonight's only show. Per DCI, the lineup is: Open Class Thunder Impulse Eruption Columbians World Class Cascades Oregon Crusaders Blue Knights Gates open at 6:00 p.m., and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. Blue Knights' Facebook page indicates their performance time is 9:01 p.m. The forecast is hot: temperatures in the upper 90s at show start. More details welcome!
  11. Where the address is not unknown. It's 500 E. Franklin Ave. That's right: there are two shows in Ohio tonight. Much attention has gone to the Tour of Champions show featuring seven corps in Massillon (which is where I'll be), but three hours to the southwest is a ten others are competing at the 35th annual installment of Soaring Sounds in Centerville, which is a suburb of Dayton. (However, there are even more corps, fifteen to be exact, competing in Indiana tonight, at the Open Class Prelims.) Here is the Soaring Sounds lineup: --Cincinnati Tradition (all age) --Academy --Jersey Surf --Pacific Crest --Oregon Crusaders --Colts --Spirit of Atlanta --Blue Stars --Blue Knights --Cavaliers Show website. According to the website, the first Soaring Sounds was in 1980, but CorpsReps doesn't list a "Soaring Sounds" or Centerville show that year. However, there is a Dayton show listed for July 13, 1980, and I'm guessing that's the one. It resulted in a tie between Crossmen and Spirit of Atlanta, followed by Cadets and Boston Crusaders. I'll kick off discussion with a question that occurred to me as I watched Colts' show last night in Pittsburgh: when the Scarecrow does find Dorothy, how is she going to react to the news that he murdered the Tin Man and Cowardly Lion? Or is he just not going to tell her?
  12. -i-a (Sorry; I see the title got cut off.) How many people here know the original 1952 Guy Mitchell recording? "And I've just gotta get five or ten ..." tenths in several captions, is doubtless what some of these corps are thinking, although one corps who is not thinking that is... "The Commandant's Own" aka The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, who will be appearing in exhibition, at: DCI Pittsburgh Presented by Three Rivers Baldwin High School Stadium 4653 Clairton Blvd. (PA Route 51) Pittsburgh, PA 15236 Sunday, August 3, 2014 -- 7:00 p.m. Corps in performance order: --Cascades --Mandarins --Pacific Crest --Colts --Blue Knights --Blue Stars --Boston Crusaders --Phantom Regiment More information here. And here's a news story about the show from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The National Weather Service says there is a 30% chance of showers Sunday night, with showtime temperature of about 70 degrees.
  13. Drums Along the Mohawk Rome Free Academy Stadium 500 Turin St. Rome, NY 13440 Wed., July 30 -- 7:00 p.m. (EDT) I didn't see a thread for this one. Here's the show site. These are the corps in show order: Cascades Mandarins Oregon Crusaders Pacific Crest Troopers Blue Knights Madison Scouts Boston Crusaders Preceded at 6:45 p.m. by a performance from the Saints Brigade all-age corps. NWS indicates rain passing through the area right now, so I'm guessing a delay is possible.
  14. So, I've never marched with a corps, and was needing to pick the brains of the vets out there. My question originates from this season from Crown but has undoubtedly occurred with other corps through history. So, Crown won last year after years of building and vying for that top stop. It finally happens! Expectations for next year are super high. They come out this year starting in the top 3. Okay, they bounced around there for years. Then they slip to fourth, and then fifth. Seeing as their score dropped below 90, it may not be out of the question to go down to 6th. Same thing with the Blue Knights from 97-2001. Got all the way up to 6th and then BAM, out of the top 12. And the same with the Cavies from 07-12. They hover around second or third for 5 years and then down to 8th. As I said, there are probably many examples. The Question: What is going through the heads of staff and members at this point in the year? Have they just given up? Do they feel like they are just "pissin' on a bonfire", where nothing they do helps? Do they keep fighting the good fight? Does arguing break out, and the blame game begin? So, veterans of the game, what more than likely is going on in corps on years like this?
  15. Firm, united let us be, rallying round our liberty! Tonight both Columbians and Eruption conclude their very short seasons in Tri Cities with their third shows. A few other corps are also performing. Drums Along the Columbia Fran Rish Stadium 1350 Lee Blvd. Tri Cities, WA 99352 From the Pressbox lists just the last four times; I'm guessing as to the rest: 7:38 p.m. Eruption 7:55 p.m. Columbians 8:12 p.m. Cascades 8:49 p.m. - Oregon Crusaders 9:06 p.m. - Crossmen 9:23 p.m. - Santa Clara Vanguard 9:40 p.m. - Blue Knights Pacific times, naturally. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. The show has a pretty nice website.
  16. I couldn't find a thread for tonight's "Corps at the Crest, Los Angeles" show in Glendora, which marks the first appearance by the Blue Devils in six days. DCI gives the line-up as: Watchmen Golden Empire Incognito City Sound Impulse Gold Mandarins Academy Blue Knights Crossmen Pacific Crest Blue Devils Santa Clara Vanguard With a start time of 5:30 p.m. PDT, which was three hours ago. Why the radio silence? Where are southern California's DCP participants?
