  6. After seeing the Blue Stars and Crossmen compete neck and neck with eachother all season this year, I began to wonder which corps might be in that same situation next season where they are right next to each other in terms of scoring and placement. My tight grouping predictions for next season are the following: Blue Devils v.s. Santa Clara Vanguard Santa Clara Vanguard v.s. Carolina Crown Bluecoats v.s. Cavailers Cadets v.s. Blue Knights Phantom Regiment v.s. Blue Knights Blue Stars v.s. Crossmen Madison Scouts v.s. Mandarins Troopers v.s. Colts Blue Devils B v.s. Vanguard Cadets Gold v.s. Golden Empire Seattle Cascades v.s. Jersey Surf Jersey Surf v.s. Pioneer Music City v.s. Genesis Battalion v.s. Columbians Impulse v.s. Shadow Shadow v.s. River City Rhythm Les Stentors v.s. Impulse Pacific Crest v.s. Oregon Crusaders Colts v.s. Academy Oregon Crusaders v.s. Spirit of Atlanta Again, these are just my predictions. What are your predictions? Do any of your predictions match any of mine? Do you agree or disagree with my predictions? Please comment in this thread and we will find out!
  7. I looked all over DCP and couldn't find a forum for the 2017 season of the Blue Stars. Someone had to make it, so I did. I'm a trumpet and this is my first year in the corps. I can reveal anything about the show music or any other leaks people ask for. I should probably ask permission from the administration first, though!
  8. A couple of tight showdowns coming to DCI Arkansas (Little Rock). 1/10th separated Crossmen and Blue Stars and 5/100th separated OC and Mandarins in the previous evening at Broken Arrow, OK. Order of performance follows. 7:00 pm Mandarins 7:17 pm Jersey Surf 7:34 pm Pacific Crest 7:51 pm Oregon Crusaders 8:08 pm Colts 8:42 pm Crossmen 8:59 pm Blue Stars 9:16 pm Blue Knights 9:33 pm Santa Clara Vanguard
  9. Surprised not to see a thread yet for this show: DCI Dallas, presented by North Texas Festival of Drums Monday, July 20, 2015 -- 7:00 p.m. CDT Wildcat Ram Stadium Lake Highland High School 9449 Church Road Dallas, Texas 75238 Corps in performance order: Open Class Guardians Genesis World Class Mandarins Troopers Colts Crossmen Blue Stars Blue Knights Santa Clara Vanguard Blue Devils Source: DCI. If anyone has details on exact performance times or judges, by all means chime in. Most recent scores have BD at 87.300, SCV at 84.825, and BK at 81.900. It's pretty unlikely any of them will change positions, but what will their scores be? Will Stars catch Xmen? Will Colts catch Troop? How will Guardians do in their final performance this year? Inspiration for subject line:
  10. Where the address is not unknown. It's 500 E. Franklin Ave. That's right: there are two shows in Ohio tonight. Much attention has gone to the Tour of Champions show featuring seven corps in Massillon (which is where I'll be), but three hours to the southwest is a ten others are competing at the 35th annual installment of Soaring Sounds in Centerville, which is a suburb of Dayton. (However, there are even more corps, fifteen to be exact, competing in Indiana tonight, at the Open Class Prelims.) Here is the Soaring Sounds lineup: --Cincinnati Tradition (all age) --Academy --Jersey Surf --Pacific Crest --Oregon Crusaders --Colts --Spirit of Atlanta --Blue Stars --Blue Knights --Cavaliers Show website. According to the website, the first Soaring Sounds was in 1980, but CorpsReps doesn't list a "Soaring Sounds" or Centerville show that year. However, there is a Dayton show listed for July 13, 1980, and I'm guessing that's the one. It resulted in a tie between Crossmen and Spirit of Atlanta, followed by Cadets and Boston Crusaders. I'll kick off discussion with a question that occurred to me as I watched Colts' show last night in Pittsburgh: when the Scarecrow does find Dorothy, how is she going to react to the news that he murdered the Tin Man and Cowardly Lion? Or is he just not going to tell her?
  11. -i-a (Sorry; I see the title got cut off.) How many people here know the original 1952 Guy Mitchell recording? "And I've just gotta get five or ten ..." tenths in several captions, is doubtless what some of these corps are thinking, although one corps who is not thinking that is... "The Commandant's Own" aka The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, who will be appearing in exhibition, at: DCI Pittsburgh Presented by Three Rivers Baldwin High School Stadium 4653 Clairton Blvd. (PA Route 51) Pittsburgh, PA 15236 Sunday, August 3, 2014 -- 7:00 p.m. Corps in performance order: --Cascades --Mandarins --Pacific Crest --Colts --Blue Knights --Blue Stars --Boston Crusaders --Phantom Regiment More information here. 13. Hello DCP Community, My name is Justin Wilkins I am in my fourth and age out year with the Blue Stars Color guard, The past three years that I have spent with the Blue Stars have been the most inspiring, challenging, and overall greatest years of my life. The organization means so much to me for it has not only made me a stronger performer but a stronger, well rounded person. To let you know a little more about myself I am full time and senior student at Columbia College Chicago studying Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management with a concentration in touring and producing live music. With my degree and my love for the life of living on the road my future career goal is to be a tour manager for a performing artist. Going on tour not only gives me the wonderful experience of drum corps but also experience that can help me in my future career goals. Aside from attending school full time I also a coach the Lake Park High School color guard in Roselle, Illinois. Who just finished their 2014 winter season finishing 24th in Scholastic A. On top of school tuition and rent it is becoming very difficult for myself to make payments for my age out summer. This why I am reaching out to you for any help you could possibly offer. After 3 years of hard work, passion, and dedication I could not explain how much this corps and activity has truly left an impact on my life. Which is why I cannot simply let myself miss out on what is expected to be the most rewarding, emotional, and unforgettable summer yet. I completely understand that times are difficult for everyone but I cannot stress enough that any donation regardless of how big or small is more than appreciated. I cannot do this without your help. Finis Coronat Opus; The end crowns the work. I understand that my post is not a discussion topic that is typically posted on this site. I am desperate in finding any funds that I possibly can so I can march my age out summer. When I say anything is appreciated I mean ANYTHING. If you are interested there are a couple of ways to sponsor a member. With the chance that I receive any donations from this site in order to prevent flooding the office with invoices I have made a GoFundMe account (http://www.gofundme.com/8ay9m0). It is understandable if you don't want to donate through this site but is just an easier option for the office as well as for me to keep track of what is being donated. 1) A direct sponsorship By sending a check to: Blue Stars P.O. Box 2523 La Crosse, WI 54602-2523 **While writing the check please be sure to put Justin Wilkins Sponsorship in the Memo/For line. ** 2) By Credit Card Visit: http://shop.bluestars.org/member-tuition-payments/member-tuition-payment/ (Enter the amount you want donate for dues in the "Quantity" field.) 3) Via telephone Call the office at 608-782-3219 to pay via credit card. 14. Lately I saw a high school marching band do quite a credible job with one of my favorite pieces of music, Maurice Ravel's Pavane pour une infante defunte ("Pavane for a Dead Princess"). Thus was I reminded that this song is supposedly part of the repertoire of the Blue Stars' 2008 show "Le Tour: Every Second Counts". While I adore that show and have listened to it a couple dozen times, at least, I've never been able to pick out that particular tune in their mix. (This work should not be confused with Gabriel Faure's lovely Pavane that was used in the Stars' preshow that year.) Did they in fact play Ravel's Pavane, or was it announced but not used? If it's in there, can anyone tell me at which point I should be listening for it? (FYI, those with DCA Fan Network subscriptions can hear a corps play this piece: the Yokohama Inspires senior corps took fifth place at DCA Finals in 2002 with a program that included Ravel's mournful ditty.)
