Tom Brace
i would like to start this out by saying...i marched blue stars and am totallyu for them...but this comment is not a diss on academy.... ok on to my point. i am a business major and actually a couple weeks ago in one of my classes we were talking about the functions of organizations and all that fun stuff and i went through and told all about drum corps and how they work. i then told about regional div I corps. which we then went into more discussing. again these upcoming comments are not directed at academy or any other previous/upcoming regional div I corps. this is directed more so at a bit of confusion with dci. in business the business world, businesses are monitored to show that they can be lets say (traded on the New York Stock Exchange) and they much meet certain criteria to obtain this. as we were talking this seemed to be the complete opposite of what DCI does with regional corps. which through all this blabber brings me to my point. I think that the whole regional div I corps should be eliminated. Division I should be full touring corps. it is more fair for the fans and i personally think the activity. corps in division I status should be able to support a full tour. if this is not the case then they should be required to be in div II until they are in a postion to support a full tour. this would also bring about a need for a change to div II which i also needs to think happen also. if there are some bigger corps down competeing in div II and a bit of dci rework, it could really help bring div II/III more to the forefront of the drum corps world. again not a diss on anyone or any corps. just some tweaks that in all honesty could take away alot of these arguements. at least in my opinion. VIVA LE DRUM CORPS!!! so...a business major. congrats. your post speaks well for your current training. keep up the good work. VIVA LE YOUR BUSINESS SCHOOL!!! Tom Brace
WOW! Could the cute little college town of Tempe have ever thought about being the host of a corps which creates this must angst in the drum corps world? So are you all so upset because Academy can't perform in your local shows? And the placement in San Antonio...you folks are thinking back to the slotting days...DCIs changed since then. Look at the recaps coming out of both the afternoon and evening shows...heck check the recaps for the entire season...slotting has been tossed aside. So Cadets got a $50K loan from DCI to start the season. I checked...Academy didn't get one...talk about fair. I WANT MY WELFARE CHECK! I'm going to say two very important words to all of you.
