DCI Muffs Income Opportunity with schedule

Recommended Posts

After reviewing today's schedule and knowing DCI is concerned about marketing and product purchases, I think they mised an opporunity for everyone to advertise and sell more stuff.

There are four separate groups with three breaks today. Unfortunately there is hardly enough time to go to the restroom and make it back to your seat during the two 10 minute breaks and the middle break being only 22 minutes is definitey not enough time to get some food and visit corps' souvie booths. Corps don't make money when people go to the restroom (OT: but I'm sure our government is figuring out a way to tax it - wait, they already have - check you water and sewer bills).

Given time, more people will spend more money, that's why Vegas never closes. Every sales convention I have attended has had a long break in the middle of the event so people could visit product booths.

Yes, more breaks may mean more bathroom runs, but many people aren't going to leave during the two short breaks and some will simply skip the middle break because it's not enough time to get out of the stadium, visit the restroom, get some food, then get back into their seat. Yes, you can choose to miss a corps (or maybe two if the line is long) to get food or visit the restroom, but I think a better plan would have been to split the night into two halves with a long break instead of four groups with short breaks. Even a longer middle break would work, but then you push into the sound curfew and someone goes to jail.

They can go to the souvie booths before or after the show.

Warning! Food service at the Rose Bowl concession stands is very slow and inefficient. Lots of complaints Thursday about crawling lines. You might have time to dash out and hit one souvie stand or two in the 22 minute break, but you will likely not have time to get food during any break and get back without missing at least one show. If you know there's a show you're willing to miss, go for it-- but don't be surprised if you still miss two shows because too many other people are willing to do the same thing. The smart thing to do is bring food and a sealed water bottle in, which was allowed Thursday.

True. People do not usually plan on spending money, they plan on saving money. Show up late or on time doesn't afford time to spend money when you arrive and it's real easy to just get out of there after the show is over.

Having a long break in the middle can be likened to holding potential buyers hostage. Look at the line in the grocery store? Do you really need any of that stuff you look at in line? Probably not. Some stores have computer displays showing commercals, and charging companies for that screen time. If it's easy, people will spend money, so groery stores sell a ton of the useless and profitable junk just because people are standing in line. Having a long break in the middle makes it easier for people to decide to go visit the booths. While they're there, they look at a shirt and think "That's interesting". Some may resist the impulse to buy, but many won't. Marketing is all about inticing people to part with their money.

More time to spend money means people will spend more money. Additionally, DCI can charge vendors more because they guarantee more people will see their product for a longer period of time.
