Dennis Banks was the 1st contra player in St. Raphael's (#2 overall in jr corps) ... then John joined him when they went to two baby Getzens ... Hey ... Only 50 years ago! I worked with Dennis for quite a while at Hurcs and never knew that he was one of the first CBs... I imagine I was in the top couple of hundred when Oceanside bought ours. Maybe less than a thousand anyway... My son inherited (from someone) a "baby Getzen" brass lacquer (although it looked like it had been used as a jeep bumper by the time he had it) that purported to be that first St Raphaels' horn. He hung it on his wall as he was (back then) a student and devotee of the regal contra bass. Then he got married and I think the horn was simply too ugly to hang on the wall - not sure where it went after that. Now he thinks of himself as a "tuba guy"...
