G-horns
I just HAVE to ask... 1 - Why convert from a community band to drums and "bugles" only? 2 - Brass in Bb and F, or G? 3 - Parade corps or competition?

The_Marching_Elite
I just HAVE to ask...1 - Why convert from a community band to drums and "bugles" only? 2 - Brass in Bb and F, or G? 3 - Parade corps or competition? Hello and thank you for viewing this post. you can contact us @ themarchingelite@yahoo.com Now to answer your question ! On one (1) degree the other message from the ther members is correct. We have always aspired to be a Drum and Bugle corps! #2 in our area many persons youth and adults alike seem to have no idea of what a band rather it be house or marching band has to endure to just to make it to preformance day. In the circle that many of our members travel, the only sense of serious work ethic as it pertains to education, music, marching preformances is that of the many local colleges, where their friends attend or have attended. And even then the lack of acheivment due to one's personal goals and lack of follow thru does not set a good example for the youth in our city. So because it's college many youth aspire for to play @ that level while many never realize that they can acheive higher level of that of their peers. And that is why We have choosen to change from a community band to a drum corps!!! In Baltimore, MD Many of the parade style Stepper groups affectionallty calling themselves " Marching Bands"and are a SAD, POOR, resprensentation of a Marching Band!!! (with the exception of a few ) they go out REPRESENTING MARYLAND!! WT%!!! IF NOTHING LESS we intend on balancing the scales for the postive image and purpose of not just for Baltimore, or even Maryland But for All persons to see what love , hard work and commitment can do when a community comes together! and that is why "Excellence is what we repeatedly do!, then it is not just an act but a habit!" Thanks for all of your support and to the others who read this post!! We are still look Brass techs to help with the Brass section! to your second question we have brass in Bb, and F and because we are making the conversion to a corp the only contras we can afford at this moment are G contras. But on the near future we will convert them also!![/font] If any one knows of someone who may have some contras for sale or donation please send us an email at themarchingelite@yahoo.com Edited December 21, 2007 by The_Marching_Elite
G-horns
Thanks for the honest and direct response. It appears from your responses that this is a youth oriented group, rather than the usual "all-age" community band. Contras in G, I hope you're getting them pretty cheap. There are some decent and relatively inexpensive convertible 3/4 tubas out there. Best of luck with your endeavor.
