Michael Boo
DCP's favorite strawman argument. One of my kids is now a competitive fencer . That activity has a high level of passion and sacrifice. Surprise - those qualities don't make it drum and bugle corps. ... Passion and sacrifice don't make it in drum corps? What DO the kids get out of their passion and sacrifice? I ask because I've sure interviewed many with a passion that made me feel humble, kids whose sacrifices to march were genuine and substantial. Sure they do - there's plenty of passion and sacrifice in drum corps. And fencing And karate, Football distance running etc etc it's not exclusive to drum corps, and doesn't per se define it. EDIT - he said "don't make it drum corps" not "don't make it IN drum corps" BTW - I've done a little fencing - it takes a hell of a lot of work..... Michael Boo
...EDIT - he said "don't make it drum corps" not "don't make it IN drum corps" Indeed you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out. That reminds me of something I once saw that was quite interesting to me. VOReason
Drum corps is not dead, however it IS dying. But it is dying not due to changes in show design, music, amps, narration, etc. These areas are simply an evolution of the form. Drum corps is dying because small, local circuits have been eliminated, making it possible for a few victors to split more of the spoils. Not to mention the exorbitant fees charged just for a young person to participate. Combine these fees with the fact that you cannot hold a summer job due to the tour schedule can end up costing close, if not more than 10 grand. And I can see a Broadway show for less than it will cost to attend finals! Quarter finals, semi-finals and finals? Come on, let's get real! So enjoy it while you can boys...you have just about priced yourselves out of business....

GuyW
Sounds like a deal to me! Note that my shortcomings are apparently too great to score me the same deal... Oh well, I've got 285 folks that'll at least put up with me... ...well, most of 'em anyway.... OK - some of them just barely tolerate me..... ...Shoot - I'd be willing to bet I have one or two friends somewhere... ....I think my Mom loves me...
