2008 BHOF SHOW IN BRIDGEPORT

Recommended Posts

Last night, "THE SELDEN CADETS ALUMNI MINI CORPS" had the honor of performing and competing in the NORTH AMERICAN BUGLER'S HALL OF FAME SHOW in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The excitement of the competition was highlighted by seeing old friends and making some new ones. With performances by some of the all time greats of drum corps, "SELDEN" took second place in the "mini corps" caption of the show that was won by "CAPITAL BRASS MINI CORPS" who gave a terrific performance...a tip of the "shako" to the guys in "CAPITAL BRASS".

The "STANDING OVATION" that we received at the end of our performance confirmed what we already knew--that the drum corps audience was thrilled to see and hear some of that "old tyme drum corps" music played by "SELDEN" one of the crowd pleasers of "the day".

It was good to see "Selden Alumni" Ron Francois at the show looking so well after a tough time in the hospital. Stay well Ron, our best to you.

A special "thanks" to Anthony Covertito and the BHOF for giving us the opportunity to be a part of drum corps history.

The show closed with a spectacular jam session by some of the greatest players of all time. It was "awesome". Seeing and hearing Frank Dorrite and Ritchee Price, to name a few, play together was priceless....definitely a Kodak moment.

Frank Dorrite reflected on his "heroes of the past" and said that "Three of his hero's, guys that had a great influence on his drum corps career were the great Tommy Martin, Frank Buscemi from "SELDEN" and Frank Diliberto from "SELDEN". We echo his sentiments and are honored to count both Frank Buscemi and Frank Diliberto as members of our mini corps

Congrats to Meiko (Mike) Hedling and Glenn Kubacki for their second place performances in the individual competitions.

Can't wait for the next show!!!

It certainly was a fun day and Selden was definitely impressive, as were all the competitors ... but, the day wasn't only about competition ... the mutual respect of each group watching the other perform was extremely fraternal ... the level of excellence displayed by the performers was truly amazing ... and the "jam" session could have easily made ESPN highlights ... thanks to all for putting up with my ramblings and barbs throughout the show ... it was really fun for me ...

It was truly a wonderful day.

I was privileged to be there.

Ace

A highlight was Frank Dorrities speech about bugling.

"Bugling IS important" and the BHOF should be proud of their efforts.

They have taken an approach that allows for Old School and new on the same stage; creating an atmosphere that will preserve and honor traditions, while also encouraging continued participation and growth in the activity.

We are humbled to be allowed to join in with such giants as were in attendence on staff and on stage. Thanks for all the small kindnesses, from the BHOF staff, participants and spectators.., that were shown to us newbies.
