FTNK
The elimination of retreat in 2005 had an unexpected result: back when we had retreat, we would perform and then wait around for a long time in uniform until retreat happened. Our uniforms had time to dry out (from the sweat of the performance). Without retreat, the uniforms would go back into their bags/on the truck right after the show, sometimes almost dripping with sweat. The result was that the uniforms were a lot smellier in 2005 than 2004. I distinctly remember Crown marching past us at a show warmup in Texas in 2005 and they REEKED. In 2006, my elastic cumberbund darn near molded. Anyone else experience this phenomenon?
3rd_Star_Brigade
The smell of Team Spirit! My uniform molded in 2006.
JustABandMom
So I wonder how much Febreeze a corps goes through in one season. There's a potential sponsor right there!
GeorgiaGirl
Funny topic! The young lady taking care of Spirit's uniforms this summer told a funny story about uniform smell. She said that a couple of years ago, she was doing some volunteer work with the Russian State Ballet when they were on tour, and they told her their Russian home remedy for uniform smell. Seems the ornate traditional costumes they wore, made with authentic fabrics and heavily beaded and embroidered, were never laundered or dry cleaned... ever. They put a mixture of cheap vodka and water in a spray bottle, and misted the costumes with the resulting costume cocktail. "That cheap vodka," she admitted, "pretty much killed any smell those costumes had." Ahh, no, we don't know if Spirit will be more "spirited" than usual this summer. dhawtho1
I can remember going through full retreat in Fla in 1987 almost gagging at the smell of those uniforms. The cadets uni's in 87 were old and they were afraid of washing as they might not last through the cycle They all would hang their uni's up and give them a "Lysol Shower"
josh161
Our contra section was so sweaty that the zippers and button were rusting off by the end of the season. There was red rust stain on their white uniform bottoms.
BigSnareline
Ah, the FUNK of retreat. One of the few things I don't miss!
