What's with all the homeless people on the 50 yard lines at shows?

and I believe when you all have your own drum corps you can tell the sound person what to wear.

until then...I would suggest an email to the corps in question suggesting some sort of dress code for their "evidently offensive looking" sound people.

Geez, Tom ... who exactly are you quoting with "evidently offensive looking" ... I don't see anyone saying "offensive" at all. I did notice last year that some of the sound guys were extremely casual in both their dress and demeanor and made a friendly suggestion that they could straighten up a bit to not be a distraction. Is it the most important issue? Certainly not. Is it something I notice every time? No. Am I going out of my way to look at the sound guy? No, but sometimes they catch my eye and in my opinion sometimes are dressed and behaving in a way that is in stark contrast to the discipline and pagentry on the field in front of them, that's all.

Since when was open discussion on DCP verboten and the only course of action for fans who notice things are to:

1) Start your own corps, or

2) email corps directors directly ....???

This will be a pretty quiet place if that's the case ...

Please -- this is a rather small issue -- but it's not the same thing as the food crew. I would say that souvie people shouldn't dress like slobs and/or act in a too-casual manner -- basic retail protocol there. And the sound board guy is front and center during the show, so he shouldn't be a distraction from the on-field stuff and should try to blend in as much as possible. Is it required or should it detract from the score? Certainly not ... but I have noticed guys with crappy dress with their foot up on the equipment and I haven't been looking for it, so it can be distracting. Anything that can distract the audience from viewing the product on the field (or buying souvies from the booth) is unfortunate and maybe worth addressing, that's all.

Look, I am not "trying to degrade people". Why in the world would you not have these people on corps shirts and clean cut sitting right on th 50 yard line? The last show I went to this year, everyone one of them were wearing flip flops, very worn shorts, very worn non-corps t-shirs and long unkempt hair in a pony tail.

BTW what does 28 posts have to do with having a valid discussion point?

Used to be quite a sight to see us Cadets with short haircuts..no facial hair, sideburns or anything...being led around by Bobby Hoffman of the bushy afro and droopy moustache, Pete Emmons with his long hair and his own droppy moustache, and George Tuthill looking like the ragged jazz drummer he was. Thank goodness for Frank Dorittie to have at least have ONE staff member who looked presentable!

Yeah, and that's a whole different discussion about staff members dress and behavior in general  But for the most part, they're not "on display" during the production -- just before and after and "backstage", if you will. Except for this one guy, that is -- would it be so bad to put him in a corps polo shirt and hat and tell him to sit up straight??

you can't ask sound board operators to dress in uniform and maintain the myth that they aren't performing members, don't you see?

well normally the techs have been on tour with the group and out in the sun, and basically in the same conditions as the members.... only they dont have a nice uniform to put on, and personally ive found it a kinda hard to keep a nice crease in my slacks and a crisp collar on my shirts when they are in suitcases being tossed around under a bus.
