2007 DCI Reviews

Recommended Posts

During the summer, I began reviewing the performances of the various corps via the DCI Fan Network. Unfortunately, I had to stop about 8 corps in due to lack of time. Since it's been awhile and Finals has come and gone for this year, I am going to wait for the 2008 Finals videos to become available before I return to reviewing the past season.

In the meantime, DCI has posted the 2007 Finals videos on the Fan Network. Since my uncle still has my DVDs, I haven't seen any of these shows since early spring. I figured this is a good time to go back and take a look at 2007 again, so I have begun to post reviews of each corps' Finals performance. Today features the top 2 corps, Blue Devils and Cadets. I will shoot for two corps each weekday, which should lead to the following schedule:

Friday October 3 - Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment

Monday October 6 - Santa Clara Vanguard and Carolina Crown

Tuesday October 7 - Bluecoats and Blue Knights

Wednesday October 8 - Boston Crusaders and Colts

Thursday October 9 - Glassmen and Spirit

You can see all of the reviews, as well as my other postings, at the Box Center Blog, located at http://boxcenterblog.blogspot.com/.

Here are today's postings:

Blue Devils - http://boxcenterblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/...an-network.html

Cadets - http://boxcenterblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/...an-network.html

Enjoy!

Kevin:

I particularly liked this part:

While the music captions (horns/percussion) are definitely championship calibur and the arrangements do an incredible job of showcasing this fact, the visual design is holding this corps back from contending for the 2008 title. While the corps does march well, the drill itself is not very interesting and it's easy to ignore when theatrical moments occur throughout the show, such as the various murders. This show will not pass Blue Devils or Cavaliers and will finish somewhere between 3rd and 5th, in my opinion. There are rumors of a new closer for the show, but, as of San Antonio, I have not seen nor heard it, so it's hard to say if it exists and, if so, whether or not it will be enough to push the corps to the top.

Not a flame, just stating where the show was at that time. Can we say, underestimated by some corps? Perhaps.

I got a little confused since you're commenting on my 2008 Phantom review in my 2007 review thread.

San Antonio did not have the final murder in it, plus there was no random "I am Spartacus!" yelling from the corps or fans at this point.

My work schedule has not cooperated with me as I had hoped, so I apologize for the delay.

Here is my review of the 2007 Cavaliers:

One by one, I'm getting these reviews down. Phantom Regiment is my latest:

Yeah, I've never been one to make it easy to understand. Ask the wife!
