Robert Kirby
Ebay has a Conquistadors decanter available. I know we have some Conquistadors alums who read this forum, so I thought I'd post it here. It isn't mine, so I don't know any more about it. For instance, I don't know if this is memorabilia for the S.S.F. Conquistadors, or for the Conquistadors Seniors from Ventura, or some other corps I never heard of or just a pastiche. At any rate, it is at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=350100297555 Robert

I am pretty sure that we had a few items with that look but I am not sure. Brian will probably know for sure. Thanks for posting this! Edit ------------------ 1971, definately before my time, and before Ventura as well. Given that, I am pretty sure it's from Conquistadors of SSF. Jocko the Wonder Llama
Yep, before my time too. That being said, I have one just like it, complete with the original box. (Unfortunately the bottle was empty when I got it. ) From the back of the box: The CONQUISTADORS The wide street is empty. Along the sidewalks, the crowd is 9 or 10 deep for over a dozen blocks. Occasionally, a baby's cry breaks above the monot- onous murmuring of the crowd. But right now, that murmuring's the only sound on the street. Scattered throughout the crowd are American flags. 15,000 people await The Conquistadors. In the distance, the beat and the roll of drums build from a rhythmic whisper and become louder. And now you can hear the horns. They're comming! Listen! You can hear them marching! Look! Look! They're here! The Conquistadors are here! People stand on tip toes, necks stretch and children are lifted to their father's shoulders. The Conquistadors. All flags and bugles, uniforms, drums and rifles. Every- that sparkles beneath the sun. Eyes forward, backs ramrod straight. Young men and women - clean, dedicated and disciplined. They are what America has meant for almost 200 years. Founded in March, 1970, The Conquistadors are representitive of all the fine drum and bugle corps across the country. Young men and women learn more than precision marchingin their association with such a corps. They learn that the same discipline, dedication and hard work that makes them one of the top drum and bugle corps in the country will make them better husbands, wives and Americans. And all of the values they learn are necessary if The Conquistadors are to do well in the national competition. The cream of the crop will gather in Dallaas this year - to be judged, to find out which group is the nation's best. The Conquistadors are young. They haven't gone to the national competi- tion yet. But in 1971, the rest of the competition had better watch out - The Conquistadors are here! Ezra Brooks is proud to salute The Conquistadors and the tradition they represent. Filled with our limited stock, 12 years old, 90 proof, real Sippin' Whiskey, this genuine Heritage China ceramic is a real collector's item for all those interrested in America's fine drum and bugle corps. The molds for this tribute have been destroyed and no more will be made.

I didn't have the means or guts yet to audition for a DCI corps, so I thought that this corps would be a great opportunity to get experience "in the fast lane" and I really liked the uniforms, I might add. I was not disappointed! The corps had a lot of great instructors from BD and SCV so the instruction I received was amazing and the drinking age was 18 in Birmingham! Jocko the Wonder Llama
... and the drinking age was 18 in Birmingham! In Denver the year before, on the night of Class "A" finals, we were told: "In this state, the drinking age is 21. In this corps, it is 40. After tonight, its birth!" I'll leave it up to you to figure out who said that.
