Yea,we switched to match grip in early 1975.
I marched with Finleyville from 1973 to 1979 and was an instructor in 1980.
AlthoughI played double tenors and trips.

I do know we were one of the first. Why? I don't know because the snareline
was still using straps and the multiangle attachement on the tdr's. :grouphug:

I don't know if its just a RC urban legend, but I was told by a member(horn player) back then, that the snares were not as good as the tenors and the match grip allowed them to play at the same level musically with them.

That seems to have been a W.PA tradition-snares lagging behind tenors, lol.

I know that the clear harnesses were used in 1980 b/c I joined in the 81 attempt to field a corps. By that time the clear j-hook snare harnesses had been in use for awhile with the white TDR 15 inch drums.

The Empire Statesmen won drums in '92, '93, '94 and '97....all matched grip and yes, extremely clean.

Lets not forget we won drums 98 too.
