Jim Nevermann
Who here has been laid off because of the The Great 2nd Depression?!! ...besides me? Boeing. :( Edited February 5, 2009 by Jim Nevermann
MiniSopGuy
Sorry to hear that. I am sure there are others here too. At least you live one of the most beautiful areas of our country. Small consolation though because I am sure there is probably not much in the way of employment on the island.
GGarrett
luckily... not me. Swissport USA... ORD ramp handling company. I was just informed recently that all of the 2009/2010 aircraft deicing training and record keeping will be solely my responsibility for our O'Hare airport operation, so I'm assuming that means job security at LEAST until then. But we all know what happens when we assume, right? But I definitely feel for you and your layoff. That sucks. Bummer.
Skydrummer9
Not me, I work for the federal government... Great benefits, only one flaw in the fine print, slight chance of DEATH!

Beautiful the NW is, indeed... though the only scenery here that one can eat is the clams or fish. I certainly miss the regular pay & good benefits, but the job itself was mind-numbingly repetitious. At one point, all I did for 18 weeks --all I did-- was vacuum floors for 7.5 hours a night. And change the filter bag every two hours. And nothing else. Over and over and over and over and.... You can't imagine. However, in fairness, I took it strictly as a "foot-back-in-the-door" job [as, commonly, do other folks there], with the very reasonable expectation of getting back into salaried, which I've worked in my whole career. But, inexplicably, it never happened... which still absolutely baffles me.

08Hawkeye
Luckily, not this guy. Self proclaimed computer nerd at your service. Who knew programmers would be in high demand? On the other hand, my employer is on an indefinite hiring freeze, so had I not gotten an offer last spring, I would not have a job. Sorry to hear about your boeing job. If I got laid off, I would be at a complete loss of direction. No going out, probably get rid of cable, stop contributing to mutual funds.. until I got a new job. Scary prospect. Good luck!!!
