Liam
I actually think the folks that define their arguments against the use of synths in very narrow, well thought out contexts to be the most cogent of all in this debate. This isn't about going back to Gs or symetrical drill or posting honor guards, this is simply judging each specific use of a newly allowed instrument. Some uses will be acceptable to some, some not. Overall, after the season, we can have a further debate regarding the totality of the uses of synthesizers in drum corps. I look forward to that discussion. yep
rayfallon
Well you were wrong. I read it. Wha.....? yea, I did mean such is war... sort of how senseless this thread feels to me sometimes, but each of us brings our own baggage into this arena, which is sort of what I was trying to say... Liam
I just think people are freaking out in the same way they freak out about every change. Attendance has been pretty steady at around 30,000 people at finals for a good 30 years. Not the same 30,000, though, so who's to say if any particular change added or subtracted to the net aside from other normal attrition/addition? Plus, again you're framing this as necessarily part of something bigger. Why can't someone just be against synths for a personal taste reason without it being about how it will affect DCI as a whole attendance-wise, rules changes-wise, etc.

Cardman
Even if people would want it to happen, and obviously it would never fly, there would just be too many obstacles. What happens when it comes to corps pics going out all over the internet? ...yeah. Does that make jolesch a porn site? Who in their right mind would perform naked in front of 20,000 people anyway, on top of knowing that their body could very well be plastered all over the internet? Yikes... I have performed naked in front of 20,000 people many times, thank you very much. This is very similar to the "if we let two gay dudes get married why not let two dogs get married too?" idea. There's a line in the sand. Hopefully society will see it. Cheers, Sean Yes, hopefully society will see the line and not allow gay dudes to get married. Note: This is a joke thread, but just for the record, allowing nudity in drumcorps would be an attrocity in my opinion. Also, I haven't actually been nude in front of 20,000 people before (thank goodness...). Edited June 25, 2009 by Cardman
