"Interesting that you made the comment about Hawthorne not moving........I have only seen the Youtube upload from the show last weekend, but in my opinion (and I have said this on here many times) Hawthorne moves so much and so quickly that I feel their scores have been impacted negatively over the last 5 years. From what I have seen over the last 10 years, Hawthorne has been the corps upping the tempo drillwise, but maybe I am just not seeing things clearly."

Thanks, Eric. I was going to say something about that too, but I was afraid my bias would be showing. Unless they made major drill changes since last week, which I doubt, I was puzzled by that comment also. I came away from the Wildwood rehearsal and show amazed at the Cabs' drill complexity, spread and its speed. Many with me felt the same, and we thought maybe they were moving too much and too fast! Not sure what happened at the Barnum, because I wasn't there, but I just don't agree with that observation by the original poster.

It was a great show Saturday night! We look forward to a review of ALL the corps including ALL of the exhibition corps also. They all work hard and deserve to be recognized to. It is their only satisfaction other than the applause they receive from the crowd.

Thank you.

Yes you are right, it was a great show and even better weather.

A great job was done in exhibition by the Buccaneers Jr. Drum & Bugle Corps as well, they all worked hard to get to this show and after getting such a grest response from their hometown crowd they are eager to work even harder for the Fanfare 09 show on August 29 at Kennedy Stadium. Saturday night they played a melody of Anchers Away, Portsmith, & Under the Sea & Russian Sailors Dance and will ad One Eyed Sailor to there show by August 29.

Well done Buccaneers  looking forward to the August show, (bigger & better)

As usual, you know they will be contenders, but come on guys, you have to start marching.

I didn't really get this either. From 2003 on (2004 especially) I feel the Cabbies have been been stepping it up visually, if only in terms of speed and demand. Especially compared to the Hurcs for that matter.

But I was there Saturday and it was definitely a much deserved win for the Hurcs, great job guys. Guard was amazing. It's good to see an "old time" corps back in the heap and mixing it up!

Not going to do a whole review, just a few comments (mostly guard related) and am donning my flame resistant suit just in case. Am I biased? Yes, to a point I am. I'm so proud of my former corps but I do try to watch a show objectively.

Missed Cru ~ sorry.

I was pleasantly surprised by CV's guard ~ LOVED their work and thought they added so much to the show. Wasn't a fan of the uni ~ too much pink (yes, that is possible ). I'd have loved to have seen it toned into other shades in that spectrum or as an accent color, but overall TOO glaring and distracting at times IMO. I think the battery was more audible from an audience perspective by them going back to traditional drums. Tara at the beginning made me smile, reminded me of my mother (has nothing to do with anything other than for me it was a sweet way to start the show).

Bush ~ can't wait to see what that show will be like with more bodies in the hornline and a completed guard book. The rifle and sabre line is just incredible as of now so by the end of August .... :worthy: Wasn't sure what to expect with the title of the show, but I do like it and think as it falls more into place it is going to be quite a site to behold and hear.

Hurcs ~ I love this show. Loved it when I saw it as a standstill at Call to Glory ~ and have been dying to see the complete picture with drill and guard. There are some things that need to be built up still and some that are already jump out at you incredibly awesome. The drumline blew me away. :worthy: And that guard OMG was I in awe of what you were doing out there. Plus seeing old faces of long time friends out there on the field, people who've waited so long for the corps to get back to this place ~ I could have cried I was so happy for you all. x a million.

Cabs ~ I disagree with the reviewer who said they don't move. If jazz running isn't movement, I'm not sure what you guys are doing wrong. I think your ballad will be a highpoint for me this season. It's beautiful. Caught a time tear in there that wasn't there last week in Wildwood. They happen. We all know that. I'm sure many in the crowd didn't even catch it. Your guard is also in the hunt this year. The air blades look really cool out there. I'll be very interested to see what happens when that book is completed.

Bush, Cabs & Hurcs guards ~ really all three of them are so incredibly talented that I'm going to be very frustrated waiting around til Kingston til I can see you all again.

Thanks to all for the reviews. It's great to hear EVERYONE'S views, no matter where their allegiance may be.

yes, i was there.

To start out let me say I marched mellophone with the Hurcs '04-'07.

DCI corps Teal Sound from Jacksonville, Fla opened the show in exhibition. Their show was "The Velvet Rope" using modern pop. Very entertaining and enjoyable. They used amplification with 2 guitars and a bass guitar plus a trap drum set.

Other than backing the Tubas with the bass; which in my opinion was not necessary; the amplification brought nothing to the table. Not a top ten corps this year.

Please understand that I don't usually do reviews and have no notes and it was a great day on the boat on Long Island Sound today (Sunday) if you know what mean.

5th. 60.913 Rochester Crusaders were very small, 18 brass?, due to graduation as announced by the announcer. Long way to go to make top 10, 11, 12.... you get my meaning.

4th. 68.4 Bushwackers were small also, 24/26 brass, though I know they tend to keep holes for returning DCI brass in August.

Challenging book, don't know if they can acheive it in time. Should still make top 10, just due to their past history.

3rd. 70.363 Corps Vets were awesome for this time of year. Great sound, very clean, great sound and balance, still some visual problems, but the crowd loved the southern style, especially "Geogia On My Mind". Definite top 10 this year, maybe top 6, IMO.

2nd. 75.9 Caballeros very predictable "spanish" show with very predictable lack of movement. They did take top brass, by .5, but see my first sentence. As usual, you know they will be contenders, but come on guys, you have to start marching.

1st. 77.525 Hurricanes. Not what I expected to see this early. Wow what a show! Talk about velocity, their opener is amazing!

Great show concept carrying forth from their journey West from last year. Unbelievable dark sound from the low brass (think Phantom Regiment, with apologies, afterall I am biased) which features 10 contras with a "Teddy feature" , which all of you DCA vets should understand. Overall the brass was balanced throughout, though they ran out of gas at the beginning of the closer. However, they reached back and finished strong. A great sign for any corps.

They took top guard, percussion amd visual.

This was the first time they won the Parade of Champions since 1982 but I have feeling the drought is over for the future.

Hurcs, Cabs and Corps Vets were all very entertaining and I look forward to seeing them in the future and to seeing their improvement, which of course is a certainty.

Nice review(for me to poop on). j/k, there's that bias thing again.
