Drums (and synths) on Parade

Recommended Posts

It doesn't hurt that MTSU stadium in Murfreesboro is one of the best venues on earth for a drum corps show! Stanford is a tad better, but beyond that, Murfreesboro is hard to beat.

Agreed.

As to the sideline electric band thing going on...

I almost busted a gut laughing when someone tried to spin the fact that it was not the synthesizer backing up the tubas but the Tuba's were backing up the synthesizer.

Bawhahahahha

Seems to me, a good review is one that thoughtfully considers both the strengths and things to be improved upon for each of the performing corps, resulting in lots of interesting insights from the review readers.

You appear to have done both. Keep it up ... Please.

Phantom Regiment- the champs are here! And it looks like prom night as they take the field, with corps members escorting guard members who are wearing tuxes and gowns. I have to be brutally honest here- this show really let me down after last year.

My prediction has come true. I knew at some point someone would say these exact words. The probelm isn't PR, the problem is us, we hold them to a standard we don't expect of others. We compare them to last year yet we don't do the same to others when they have had a "successfull" year. We fail to see the merits of a show because of our own myopia, not because it isn't a "good" show. Alas, I believe this to be true of our judging community as well.

I will not be surprised when they finish in the top 3 in both brass and percussion and finish no better than 5th because the show didn't (allegedly) connect like Spartacus.

Those who live in the past, miss the future.

No one, not even me, said it was a bad thing...it is a good thing...it just does not happen over her in the central states...at least not with all-age corps. Please, do not create controversy where none was intended. I simply said that some Eastern corps do it; Kilties do not.

Okay?????

The phrase, "cutting deals", is yours, not mine. If I made any kind of error, and I apologize for that, it was using the word "employ" (which I meant as "put to use", a common definition). I did not use the word to indicate "hiring or to hire". But yes, some corps have established contracts with colleges or universities to secure a section of players for college credits.

Sort of backpedaling?

It's not a matter of the show "not connecting". It's a matter of "there are 7-8 other corps out there with better shows".
