bill
heavy recruiting isnt the same as cutting deals with college lines as you said. there's HUGE difference. they may be under contract to march there, like many corps do with a member...but there arent contracts with the schools themselves to supply members which is what your post insinuated.sorry, but your 2nd post is more akin to the real reality than your original just by the wording alone. and...no offense to the Kilties....but given how the activity is going, the youth movement by many DCA corps is the way to go if you want competitive success. as for the pay thing...we've been hearing about it for 15 years now, and no one has still shown any proof, so it's just a bad perpetuated rumor until someone offers it up. Average overall age of The 2009 Kilties is 27 years old. Thirty five are 22 years old or under. Two over 60. Carry on.

The phrase, "cutting deals", is yours, not mine. If I made any kind of error, and I apologize for that, it was using the word "employ" (which I meant as "put to use", a common definition). I did not use the word to indicate "hiring or to hire". But yes, some corps have established contracts with colleges or universities to secure a section of players for college credits. Jeff Ream
and that's a bad thing? thats great to see a college/university do something like that ( still love to know which corps got this done)
bigbluekiltie
and that's a bad thing? thats great to see a college/university do something like that ( still love to know which corps got this done) No one, not even me, said it was a bad thing...it is a good thing...it just does not happen over her in the central states...at least not with all-age corps. Please, do not create controversy where none was intended. I simply said that some Eastern corps do it; Kilties do not.
chaos001
just wondering...why in hell are you driving all the way to Murfreesboro for a show??!?

On the 50
just wondering...why in hell are you driving all the way to Murfreesboro for a show??!? It doesn't hurt that MTSU stadium in Murfreesboro is one of the best venues on earth for a drum corps show! Stanford is a tad better, but beyond that, Murfreesboro is hard to beat. 84skyrydr
Great review Galen. To bad you missed the Kilties, they are old school in a great way. Maybe next time.
Scerpella
This is a source of concern for the corps every year. I made a point of watching feet at 08 DCA prelims and finals and youre correct the feet in All Age are problematic regardless of who youre talking about, but no one but Kilties continues to put big white searchlights on their feet to advertise them. The consensus always returns to the fact that most people feel the spats are so integral to the look that they cant be eliminated without really harming the tradition.Kilties have one of the most recognizable and distinct "brands" out there. Different is good. 20 minutes suit up time and noticeable feet is a small price to pay for that. Kilties working on their feet.
