Carolina Crown announced this afternoon that they will not be preforming tonight.

Some kind of bug. Anyone know how many members came down with it?

As posted on Facebook:

"As some of you may have heard from your family member or friend in Carolina Crown the corps has a number of members "under the weather" today. We have been in constant contact with our medical consultants and local health care providers and have been shuttling those not feeling well to receive medical treatment. All those treated so far have tested negative for any type of flu virus (including those related to "swine flu"), and have been diagnosed with a cold virus. We have isolated those affected and are taking extra precautions with regards to our food service, cleanliness of the buses, etc.

Please be assured that we have a very experienced administrative and support team in place that has handled similar situations over the 20 years of the corps' existence. We appreciate your concern and will keep you posted of any developments over the next day or two.

Kevin Smith

Update from their site:

7/13 Update -

As promised, this is an update to yesterday's email about the "cold bug" that has hit the corps. Fortunately, it is a 24-hour type "bug" and most of those affected yesterday have returned to rehearsal today. Unfortunately, a number of other members have shown symptoms today as the "bug" works it way through and out of the corps population.

After discussion with Drum Corps International, it was decided that it would be best for Carolina Crown and the other participating corps if we did not attend tonight's show in Ft. Walton Beach, and instead moved on to our next site to get the entire corps a full night of rest. Therefore, rehearsals are ending at dinner tonight and we will be moving the short distance to our Mississippi housing site.

Again, we continue to obtain medical consultation and are treating the "cold virus" as recommended. I will provide additional updates as appropriate.

Best Regards,

Kevin Smith

I hope it's just a simple virus running through the corps. BD 82 had some type of flu that took us out of a show and we came back strong. Get well soon and good luck. Looking forward to seeing you in Indi.

Just talked to a well Crown member. They are being well cared for and this member is optimistic that things are completely under control. They rehearsed with about 25 holes today and the sick ones were isolated to rest. They have arrived at their housing site for tonight and are all going to bed with a mandatory early bedtime for a good rest. As usual, all is well with Crown even with the sickness. Gotta admire the open communication and good judgement. These are tough kids and they just want to get well and march and they will and be better than ever!
