Robbie Ellis
Did a morning parade for a small town anniversay (forget which anniversary) and the parade officials wanted us to play our show afterwards. The parade ended at a fire hall and they wanted us to wait until say, 1PM and then play our show. Well, we waited, set up in a parking lot with cars and played the show, to NO ONE. No audience at all. They all stayed in the fire hall and drank beer I suppose. We got paid and then joined them to drink beer. Another time we were hired to play some sort of celebration at a hotel and when we arrived to play, we discovered that the guest of honor had died either that day or the day before. Either someone forgot to inform us, whatever, but they decided to change the celebration to a memorial and we played 2 songs and left. ST_Lawson
1. Dubuque Mall - did a parade through the mall, and standstill in the food court 2. Saturn Car Plant - did a parade for the Saturn owners picnic at their plant in TN.
TheWhacker
1. Dubuque Mall - did a parade through the mall, and standstill in the food court In 2000 Heat Wave did something similar. I think we were in Cumberland for a show that weekend, but while we were there we did the exact same thing. A parade through the a mall and a standstill. Then in 2001 we did a standstill in a big church for some event they had going on. What made the situation uncomfortable is that our line that year had a lot of provocative visuals, as well as some inappropriate vocals. I'm not too sure how well the audience took to that, but we still got a standing ovation.
bumo27
Not with a drum corps, but have to share. The strangest (or was it the greatest?) place, was pool side at Glen Eden "Sun Club". Yes, a nudist colony. If you weren't with a drum corps, what were you doing at the nudist colony? Standing still, I bet.

MiniSopGuy
If you weren't with a drum corps, what were you doing at the nudist colony? Standing still, I bet. It was a gig with a jazz band. Thinking about chord changes for ad lib solos was a bit of a challenge.

cabsbari79
Let see I have a few more Mike from a Cabs days: We all took a day off to play at an opening of a mall in MD. We had to cover up our uniforms and wear cowboy hats. I also remember the wedding in 1984 or 1985 we played at. It was a country club and I don't think one car that pulled in for the reception was less than $50,000. We played outside the reception hall. There was a lawyer here in NJ that was a big Cabs fan and His wife really loved the corps. He had a black tie Birthday party for his wife adhe had us come down a patch in the dark and set up in large yard and play for his wifes party. We had to play at horn pop because the balcony where everyone watched from was three stories high. The favors that the layer gave out to the guests was a recording of the corps from the previous seasons DCA.

Now see, if you were playing mello or bari, you wouldn't be able to see past your bell and it would've been easier.
