SCV Members Battling the Drum Corps Bug

July 29, 2009

Though the Santa Clara Vanguard has been experiencing one of its best years from a general health standpoint, some members of the corps have recently contracted a viral illness. Currently the tour administration is managing the health of fourteen corps members in various stages of the illness. These members are not rehearsing and are being kept separated from the rest of the corps. They are all resting comfortably in a separate room. Medical personnel have been consulted and SCV is following their instructions to the letter. The illness seems to have taken a 24-48 hour period, as nine members who were ill yesterday have shown improvement today.

The corps performed last night in Richmond, KY with nine holes due to illness. They do not have a performance this evening. They are performing on Thursday in Columbus, OH

SCV is following the specific medical instructions to treat - as well as prevent - further illness in the corps. Previous to the illness the corps has been following their standard and specific cleaning procedures to all water jugs used by the members, as well as the corps' water jugs from buses, as well as those used on Miss Amana. This summer, the corps has also been continuously lectured/reminded about personal hygiene and the simple steps they can take on their own to prevent illness on the almost 80-day summer experience.

The corps has also have been following the standard bus cleaning and disinfecting procedures and will be stepping that effort up this week in view of the current illness.

Geez, I hope everyone gets better soon.

No doubt. That would so stink to get all the way through the summer and then be too sick to perfrom in Indy. That said, I would have had to have a serious case of Martian Death Flu to keep out of the show.

Get well soon guys and gals.

Talked to my sister yesterday...she says she hasn't seen some of her teammates in a few days, they have been keeping them separated! SCV is trying to nurse the sick back to health!

Get well soon!!

That's the beauty of dot marching. Still can clean drill with holes.

Hope they all get well

How many corps does this make now that have come down with it?

Pioneer has been battling "THE BUG" as well the last couple of days. They had a free day in Gettysburg, Pa on Tuesday, about a third of the corps came down with it on their way to Gettysburg, They are now recovering, and have been rehearsing yesterday, and today to get ready for Allentown. They hopefully will all get back to good health for tomorrows competition!

As was mentioned earlier, luckily it seems to be a 24-48 hour thing, and then they bounce right back.
