(All in good fun) My prediction

Recommended Posts

Well, I haven't seen either Alliance or CorpsVets this year (having only seen the top 6). But given that Alliance is seeded lower than CorpsVets and haven't beaten them (or am I incorrect?), and the fact that Kilties are scoring better than they have in a long time, and given that Renegades are definitely in the middle mix (or maybe higher?), and then add Brigadiers and Bushwackers, I can't see Alliance any better than 10th right now.

I'm assuming - maybe wrongly, but it's anyone's guess right now - that Alliance will have to beat Bushwackers for the 7th spot. And Bush is notorious for coming on strong late in the season. I just wish Bush were strong all season, since I tend to like their shows. And I really doubt Alliance will beat the Brigadiers from what I've heard.

But I'd be perfectly OK with being wrong, since I'm used to that!

i think you are right but im not sure about 7th place. they have a great show but will the audience from the north will be as supportive as the south audience? HurcsGuyGD. why u think they have the potential to make 7th?

I forgot to mention that I am just a fan now. I stopped performing about 7 years ago so I have plenty of time on my hands to look at things in dca from an outside point of veiw.

I do think 7th place is a possibility for The Alliance. Not all northern fans like new school drum corps. Not all northern fans like old school drum corps. We are a very mixed batch of fans up here. What I can tell you is that all dca fans love "LOUD AND FAST". Alliance does not seem to have a problem with that so Im sure the fans are going to love them.

The fact that they are taking on a more DCIish style in show programing may end up working out well for them score wise.

They seem to have alot more demand than other corps mentioned on this thread. All they have to do is perform the hell out of it this weekend and they may very well shock the hell out of the fans and judjes.

They are young, hungry and loaded with talent. It's hard to over look that at this point in time.

I look foward to seeing how well they do this week.

I agree. They have not beaten the CorpsVets.............................Yet

The Alliance has demand on their side. If they peek this weekend, Watch out

Don't get me started on those scores in the South! I can chalk that up to a brand new corps "proving" themselves in Open Class. No judge is ballsy enough to put a brand new Open Class corps several points ahead of a perennial Finalist right away (keep in mind that some judges put CV's drumline ahead of Alliance's crazy drumline from last year, early season... and they weren't dirty). That may to hurt them down the road at Championships, but you make a good point. Technically they have not beaten CV, yet...

Touche. You win this round.

... but I make the statement again. The Kilties had a higher seeding score than Alliance last year... and look how that turned out. Alliance is bigger, cleaner, louder, faster, _______ (fill in an adj.) than last year. One thing is for sure, I would not want to miss ANY of Prelims (Open or A).

i agree with the last statement. Alliance is really different compare with the other dca shows. isnt the dca shows that we are use to see. they jazz run, play a lot, fast tempo. What i lead is that their idea is to bring something different to dca and get young people to start knowing about it too. Im not sure about this but i heard their average age in the corps is 19-20? that is CRAZY! and they have to use their advantage that are young people and a lot of energy. For u Ron i think they might be able to get in a higher position. You have to think that they havent compete against northern corps, they been getting closer to CV every competition and their show have a lot more to improve from CV from my opinion and i bet they clean a lot this past weeks. Alliance is a group that i think have the possibility of shocking many people in the next 2-3 years and who knows maybe start to show how DCA south is growing.

Is the North ready for the youth movement? I like Alliance a lot. Percussion was crazy clean. Last year I thought they were an indoor show with some brass and color guard thrown in. This year they are the full package. Not a top 5 corps for sure but I bet 8 or better.

DCA South - Sun Devils also have low avg. about 18-19 my guess. Coincidence that Alliance and Sun Devils share the same hotel ? The South has some very good competitive HS bands/competition circuits and hopefully all the DCA-South corps will get a bump up in score.

Looking at the big picture. This is the corps I will be watching for the next few years.

DCA needs a good southern power house. If anyone is going to do it, I think it will be Alliance (2 to 3 years out)

Who knows, next year for all I know.

Also (just my opinion) Bush will jump the Brigs come dca. How will Alliance do against brigs. I don't know.

I think they do have a good fighting chance against the brigs. I guess well find out this weekend.

Ok I had to read this like ten times. (hooked on phonics might help ) With that said I think you need to look around. I think most of what you said DCA is not doing they are actually doing. I see Jazz Running I see fast tempos and well looking at Hercs,Cabs,Empire ,Bucs. Ok most everyone they all have alot of younger members with Older mixed in now. I believe all the corps are attracting younger members. Now I am not taking anything away from Alliance just noting some things you mention are being done already. But its good to have another corps doing it and striving to be the best. I wish them the best at DCA'S.. Glad they are part of it..

Yep, the average age of the corps is 19.

I have to disagree with you MrFun. A lot of groups have fast tempos and they are jazz running but i dont think their shows is that demanding. If im not wrong, their entire show is around 180bpm except for the ballad. they are marching most of the time. Im guessing they have around 100 sets or maybe more, and from the shows i have seen, the other corps dont change or move around the field as much as Alliance. In the jazz running part, well i think they jazz run like 3 times and this are real jazz running not 8/5 steps that other corps try to jazz run so it looks cool. Its true that many groups have younger people, but this group is one of the youngest. im guessing most of their hornline are high schoolers and they are already in the same level of some groups that have mostly vets? i think thats impressive. Im not trying to say that Alliance is the best of the best because they have many things to fix and adjust but in my opinions this show is not the usual dca show. Im if u can see them in prelims look at their uniforms after they perform... they look like they just ran a marathon in their uniforms! i dont think i have ever seen a dca group sweat as much as them after a show.

After all that said i think every south corps are doing a great job and i think this is the best representation that the DCA south have ever had. I wish every south corps good luck!
