can anyone identify this stadium?

Scott,

At first I thought "Manning Bowl", but the front sideline seems too far from the stands. Still, the photo says "East coast" to me.

DCI Nationals were in Philadelphia that year, and it's likely the Troopers did a few shows in that part of the country. This looks like a college or municipal staduim, rather than a high school field.

Yeah, doesn't look like Manning Bowl to me either. Plus, Troopers were in Ohio when World Open took place....but this doesn't look like Marion either. Anyone ever been to Bellefontaine?

Next, concerning Drums Along the Rockies....found a press release announcing their move to Mile High Stadium for 1975. This was part of a five-show series. In addition to the Casper and Glenwood Springs contests, there were exhibitions in Canon City and Alamosa. Don't know if Troopers appeared at every one of these events, but it seems likely.

That is not Harding Stadium in Marion if those are light poles. Harding has a light pole right down the 50 on the backfield and then one on each end of the stands for a total of three you would see. Also Harding had a small wooden pressbox up top on those back stands.

It might be Bellefontaine on the 8th of August (Troopers went on at Marion Prelims the second day of Prelims at 9:34AM on the morning of the 9th, with Finals that night)

They also did a show in Canton, Ohio the day after Marion on Sunday the 10th. (won by Oakland Crusaders)

It also could be considerably earlier in the season, right?

Sure it could, I was just responding to this last post ironlips posted, just thought everyone was looking for Trooper dates in the Eastern part of the country. I will leave you all alone now.

CorpsReps data on theTroopers for 1975:

Aug. 8 Bellfontaine, OH

Aug. 8 Marion, OH (US Open Prelims)

Aug. 9 Marion, OH (US Open Finals)

Aug. 13 Philadelphia (DCI)

It seems unlikely they did 2 shows on the 8th, but it's not impossible. Marion to Bellfontaine is about 70 miles, and Jones might well have been trying to pick up some additional cash to augment the tour.

Are there any other corps on that video? A cross-check of line-ups would be helpful.

Actually, all the corps in Bellefontaine were assigned to day two of the U.S. Open prelims on August 9th.

No, just the Troopers. The library contains some shows where multiple corps were filmed, some shows where only the Troopers were filmed.

So ... there must be some order or chronology to what's on the tapes ... what were the shows taped either before or after this segment of the Troopers ... we might be able to build a trail of where they appeared ...

:-)
