<snip>when some of the Marching bands played some bop grooves (groove music), they got a louder crowd reaction.<snip>

I have no idea what this thread is about. "Bop grooves?" "Groove music?" How can we have a discussion if we don't even understand basic terms?

I'd love to hear more of that kinda "bop" in drum corps.

Funny, when Frank Dorritie uses the term "Groove" he's mostly talking percussion. "Bop" is more like jazz as played by guys like Chet Baker, Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Mulligan, Charlie Parker, Hal Roach among others.

That Drum Corps from Concorde, CA (Home of the great Jazz label) probably comes the closest to having played Bop of any kind.

...you have to realize that a band crowd and a drum corps crowd are two completely different things.

Very true, in my observation anyway. The DCI crowd is (for the most part) very intense and analytical. A band show is more like the Indy 500, more about the event and less about the performances per se.

Not trying to start a riot or call anyone out or anything - just my $.02, fwiw.
