CorpsVets 2010 Day 1

written by David Stollberg

What a great open house! An absolutely fantastic turnout and just a wonderful day!

To summarize for all and to encourage those that couldn't make it, we had over 175 attendees,

including members, staff and volunteers. For potential members present we had 64 horns,

38 percussion, 47 color guard and 2 drum majors for a total 151. So if you're thinking about

participating in the largest and best corps the CorpsVets have yet to offer, now is the time to join.

Bring your friends!

The weather was beautiful and allowed the large hornline to rehearse outdoors the entire day.

The high brass and low brass split with high brass in music rehearsal under caption head Alan

Armstrong and the low brass under caption head Chad Jacobs assisted by visual instructors Chris

Freeman, Chris Sink and Les Burgess. Half way through the day, they switched and ended the day

with the full hornline and Freddy Martin helping instruct. The massive color guard contingent was

in the gym with program coordinator and guard caption head Victor Mooney and guard instructors

Michael Floyd and Aaron Gantt.

The battery, under caption head Eric Miller and assisted by percussion instructors Andy Haupt, Matt Young,

Julian Jones, and David Clay stayed indoors for a time but also headed outdoors into the sunshine of Senoia

Georgia. The pit rehearsed outdoors under the instruction of Whitney King and Will Campbell. Wonderful

sounds were heard throughout the campus as they worked technique charts.

Other tidbits announced were the description of the 2010 field show, the new tuition structure, the calendar

and potential summer show schedule and fund-raisers. Victor Mooney described the show concept to the

new 2010 membership which brought a resounding applause. The corps is embarking on some new approaches

in the programming this season; change is coming and it's a revolution! A detailed public announcement will

come soon.

All veterans and new members were encouraged to jump into the fund-raising season as Georgia Dome suites

attendants, earning two fund-raising credits per event. Additionally the corps will work at the Atlanta Motor

Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway and Lowes Motor Speedway in the spring of 2010.

The summer show schedule is tentative at this point but should include at least two southern DCI competitions,

two or three southern DCA competitions and three northeastern DCA competitions (including championships in

Rochester NY Labor Day weekend).

The next brass rehearsal is Saturday December 5th 1030am-7pm at East Coweta Middle School.

For percussion and guard the next rehearsals will be announced soon, but should be in January or February.

Wow, sounds like a great start for this group. Figured the new staff would give them a jumpstart, but wasn't expecting these kinds of numbers !! Can't wait to see this group on the field. Anyone sharing what their show is yet?

It is a wonderful start for us and we're very happy with our recruiting chairman James Wolters and the many other volunteers who have been working with James during the "off" season.

Program Coordinator Victor Mooney has not finalized our show yet. Victor did share conceptual ideas at open house and the horn line played through "Open House Sketch", an original piece by Brass Caption Head Alan Armstrong. The chart is a short composition that expresses some of the styles, articulations, and other musical expressions that may be in the production.

Here's a pic of Alan Armstrong and Freddy Martin in front of the hornline.

Hmm, it's cropped (some sops and baris aren't shown) and it's a small pic for this site. Well, we'll get some more pics up soon.

It was a great day! Anyone interested in auditioning for the corps, you still have plenty of time, contact our recruiter or me and come on out on Sat. Dec 5th.

Sincerely,

Dave

i wanna say 125

I think it's 128 plus drum majors. They don't count unless they pick up equipment and use it.
