Corps duties outside of marching and playing

Recommended Posts

My first year I was on Water Crew (sucked). Second year I was on Bus Loading (not too bad). Now I'm on scaffolding! Scaffolding is tight.

At my corps, meal clean up alternates from section to section. The guard's job is to clean the gym when we're leaving a housing site. Then there are lots of jobs inside the color guard.... like sound system, yard markers, guard bag, bus loading, loading the truck. I was on sound system for three years... the boys usually get stuck with bus loading.

Rookie year, I was on the bus loading crew. It sucked the first week or two, but once you know where everything goes it gets real easy. By mid/late July the four of us on our bus loading crew could load the bus in about five minutes, and Finals week once you role into the housing site you're pretty much down. Plus, the 'bribes' from other members to put their stuff in an easy-to-grab location when unloading at a school was great: I didn't buy much soda or junk food that year!

But my age-out year, I had the best job: bus captain! I was first one off the bus when we stopped so the staff can tell the rest of the captains the logistics of the school. I was also in charge of making sure the bus was clean (i.e. assigning cleaning jobs to people or making sure people with bus cleaning duty did their job), and I controlled the music/movies played during the night. I was the oldest person in the corps my age-out year (my b-day was in early Sept) and the drum major (who assigns jobs) was awesome and TOTALLY hooked me up with that sweet job.

That sounds like a great job to have.

I envy you. :worthy:

Anything is better than having to stick your hand into a plugged toilet. Yes ladies, you aren't supposed to flush that down the toilet. Although, in retrospect, it DID prepare me for having a family and running into these little issues. :)
