Schickmeister
interesting being BD for the 80s and cadets for the 90s...i guess that run of 2nd place for cadets helps in the 90s while BD dipped to 4th and what not.
bluecoats88
The only problem I have with that is that if you are going to assign a number it should be 31 .. since you're using 31 corps. no, each year I assign 25 for a 1st place. In the 2000's there were never more than 25 corps at DCI in World class. I'm not using 31 corps, there just happened to be 31 corps that competed during those years, but never during the same season. And I started this back when top 25 was a milestone, so that was why I chose to start at 25. So in my system only corps making the top 25 receive points. This may scew the 1970 and 1980 rankings for those corps that moved from out of top 25 into top 25 during that time period. \ But that was were I set my threshold when I started this many years ago. However, in the 2000's it really doesn't matter since there was never a year with more than 24 corps competing in Div I/World Class. supersop
1980's Blue Devils 237 Santa Clara Vanguard 235 Garfield Cadets/ of Bergen County/ The Cadets 223 Madison Scouts 211 Phantom Regiment 207 Cavaliers 194 Spirit 176 Suncoast Sound 148 Crossmen 134 Sky Ryders 128 This makes a ton of sense to me. It might sound weird but I feel there should be more weight for a championship. Then again, I thought for certain without even looking at the numbers that SCV would be ahead of the Cadets in the 80's.... and expected BD to be neck and neck with Cadets. Honestly, those 3 corps owned the decade by a landslide. Cavies turned on the heat from 86 -89. Madison was always solid and managed a win in 88. Suncoast got dumped a couple of times but were definitely a powerhouse with Spirit going back and forth. Sky Ryders were a fan fav ................ What a great decade. I did expect to see VK higher, then again they didn't kick it up until 85. GREAT STUFF!
Donny Drum Corps
the only problem with assigning 13 to corps who didn't make finals changes the weight of those years thus artificially elevating corps like Blue Stars over Spirit.I always just assign 25 points for 1st, 24 for 2nd etc... If you do this for all corps that competed in DCI from 2000-2009 here is the results: 01. Cavaliers 241 02. Blue Devils 239 03. The Cadets 231 04. Phantom Regiment 214 05. Santa Clara Vanguard 209 06. Bluecoats 192 07. Boston Crusaders 181 08. Carolina Crown 179 09. Blue Knights 159 09. Glassmen 159 11. Madison Scouts 152 12. Crossmen 141 13. Spirit 129 14. Colts 124 15. Mandarins 77 16. Seattle Cascades 76 17. Southwind 70 18. Troopers 60 18. Blue Stars 60 20. Capital Regiment 54 21. Pacific Crest 53 22. The Magic 50 23. Pioneer 48 24. The Academy 33 25. Kiwanis Kavaliers 27 26. Esperanza 15 27. Jersey Surf 11 28. Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets 9 29. Patriots 8 30. Spartans (NH) 6 31. Liam
no, each year I assign 25 for a 1st place. In the 2000's there were never more than 25 corps at DCI in World class. I'm not using 31 corps, there just happened to be 31 corps that competed during those years, but never during the same season. But shouldn't you still then take the average of each corps. To say that Pioneer is ahead of Academy or Sothwind over Blue Stars (no disrepect intended) simply because of number of appearances I think skews the spirit of the exercise a little, dontcha think? Tito John
Just wondering if this would look any different if you used the average point score in each corps' final competition of the year, whether quarters, semis or finals. That would eliminate statistical issues in placements for corps that didn't march the entire 10 years. Add up the scores and divide by the number of years they marched.
