glory
I don't think anyone is arguing against Crown winning the money. I think others are doing as I did and arguing for the funds to be used in different ways. Not such a terrible thing, really. HH
Western Burger
If they'd kicked a puppy in the video, half of DCP would complain not about animal abuse, but that they kicked the wrong breed of dog. This is funny.
mellophonium
And a facility like this to have spring training at would be way better than Gardner Webb University. OMG yes

GSNewell
It's the Chase COMMUNITY Giving program. Chase is offering the grants for organizations to use in their COMMUNITY. Yes, curing cancer and helping people in Haiti absolutely are great causes. They are not the causes supported by this particular program, however, even if we want them to be. Think of this as money with strings attached, much like colleges get (a donor says here's $10M for a new math department building). If the money is earmarked for a specific endeavor, it can't be used wherever the recipient would like. In other words, if Cavaliers wanted to take their million-dollar grant and give it to Haitians in need, that would violate the terms of the gift. CrownStarr
As a native Washingtonian, It looks strikingly like the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Haha, I caught that too. Having our own Kennedy Center would be pretty sweet, but somehow I bet that's out of the $1m range... And a facility like this to have spring training at would be way better than Gardner Webb University. Really? I don't think we have much to complain about with GWU. We sleep in actual dorms (with beds!), we get pretty good college caf food during the week, and the campus is gorgeous. Maybe the PAC would be even cooler, but I wouldn't be crushed to return to GWU. geluf
HAITI......enough said.... Haiti is not within the Community of Fort Mill. It's ok though, I've noticed that LOTS of people haven't bothered to read the low-down on what the money is to be used for.

You didn't take 2 minutes to actually look at any of the other charities in the running! Here is one for cancer: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiv...harities/485108 Here is another: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiv...harities/410627 Disaster relief: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiv...harities/931863 Muscular dystrophy: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiv...harities/301212 Clean water for developing countries: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiv...harities/895310 I don't see how anyone could honestly say giving the $1,000,000 or even the $100,000 awards to a drum corps is a higher priority than any of those organizations. However that is essentially what is being said if you vote for drum corps over legitimate charities.

However that is essentially what is being said if you vote for drum corps over legitimate charities. Of course not. And for myself, I actually voted for the American Cancer Society. The problem with a lot of people in this thread is that somehow Crown is a villain to them. Like it or not, Crown is one of the drum corps on the list, and if they win, then they have every right to do what they think will best fulfill the spirit of the Chase Community Giving program. Crown does not control whether or not they will win the money, WE DO. So if you don't like the idea then DON'T VOTE FOR CROWN. It really is that simple. All this back-and-forth bickering about the merits of Crown's idea is unbelievably stupid.
