Lance
I don't know anything about the types of electronic instruments corps are using. I just found out a corps is using something called a Xylosynth. Just wondering if anybody knows what corps are using this, or any other electronics like this. Here are some of the more interesting product descriptions for it: ...Designed and engineered without compromise...and convenience of MIDI whilst retaining the physical playing experience of an accoustic instrument.......The unique transpose pedal allows the player to shift to any key signature or switch octave in real time. Wee!... ...The Xylosynth’s solid hardwood keys unlock an unparalleled level of nuance and playability in any MIDI sound source... ......It looks, plays and feels just as a real instrument should... ...With one instrument carrying all mallet duties from marimba and glock to the most modern of music sounds, prepare to discover endless opportunities to thrill your audience.... ...The Wernick Xylosynth has a 2 year parts and labour guarantee and yes this does include the keys! What are some other things that corps are using?
tempotantrum
Most corps are using what is common in the indoor percussion setups you usually see today... You may see a mix of some or all of the following: Synthesizers Electronic drum set MalletKat and or other trigger setups Samplers Mixing boards to control the levels Microphones to amplify and distribute the sound evenly (important) Laptops to control sampling/audio levels
wvu80
Teal Sound has a lead guitar, bass guitar, and two giant keyboards (can't remember the brand, I think Korg) Edited July 2, 2010 by wvu80

Looks like it's kind of like the xylosynth.
corpsband
Watched the Xmen pit a little at Ewing. They had 3 players on synths for parts of the book -- sometimes one of the synth players would play rack or concert bass.
CrownBariDad
I think Carolina Crown added an electric bass just for their Madonna encore.

big old drummer man
See, I finally learned what a MalletKat is. Looks like it's kind of like the xylosynth. The Xylosynth is what a MalletKat wishes it was.
Lance
The Xylosynth is what a MalletKat wishes it was. What does that make a xylophone or a marimba? Obsolete?
big old drummer man
Of course not. I was comparing the Xylosynth and MalletKat. Acoustic instruments were nowhere in the discussion. Acoustic instruments will always reign supreme.
