DCI story on CNN.com

And whoever vandalized Hops car... You're a lowlife sack of.... you know.

Exactly. I mean, I have no respect for the guy, but that's just not cool at all. Like he himself said, "thousands of people" may WANT to, but then common sense kicks in and you don't actually DO it. Really, really low.

I like Mason's take on the whole thing. He's not the type to back down either when it comes to a fight. If anyone is spearheading the talks with regards to keeping DCI intact ... I'm sure he has one of the loudest voices.

Am I the only one that thinks this is kinda ridiculous that this is on CNN?

Good Press - Bad Press ......... either way it's coverage and free advertising for the setup of the G7 split. Yamaha is involved in the article which shows some pull on the corporate side for the G7 ............................................

This is all one big setup.

Nope. I'm just waiting for the obligatory "band nerd" comments at the bottom of the story from people who know nothing about DCI.

edit: clarity

Holy crap, more of the "big music companies are secretly running drum corps" nonsense?! Yamaha is quoted because they're one of DCI's largest sponsors, and the three sentences quoting the Yamaha marketing rep are CLEARLY generic, broad statements about 1) how drum corps are the standard bearers of the marching arts activity, and b) who Yamaha is involved with sponsoring drum corps (i.e. field testing gear + product exposure).

Really, some of the stuff insinuated around here are just so laughably ludicrous and wrong I sometimes wonder if there are only a handful of posters who are rational thinking adults

It might be painful and risky, but perhaps it might be time to call it a day as far as DCI goes. The lower echelon corps have become nothing more than a supporting cast for the top 7. They get inferior housing, travel further, expend more $ and diesel just getting to shows, and receive comparatively little compensation, along with having their ranks raided for top talent every year.
