gak27
Learning to 'hold it' or pee in devices such as 2 liter soda pop bottles ...or having someone hold onto the back of your shirt while you "relieved" yourself out the door of the school bus -- making d@mn sure you told the people down that side of the bus "Windows up!!!" Fran Haring
Off the bus, do the show. No warmup, no tuniing. A summary of my six years in junior corps. Our director/dictator didn't believe in downtime before a performance, to say the least.

Fran, didn't that also happen at the 1978 prelims? Remember..."Move like you've never moved before".......Mr D.
ajedrummer
Off the bus, do the show. No warmup, no tuniing. My favorite story from the early 70's. One of our instructors was a horn judge and did a number of the early DCI Championships. He told of a small corps (that shall remain nameless here) that had absolutely the most out of tune hornline he ever heard. So he wrote on the judging sheet that the horn instructor speak to him at the critique. When he questioned the instructor as to why they were so out of tune, his reply was: That is not possible, we tuned the hornline at the beginning of the summer and soldered the tuning slides in place. Not kidding - this is a true story.
HornsUp
That is not possible, we tuned the hornline at the beginning of the summer and soldered the tuning slides in place. The equipment manager for our cross-town rivals owned a car repair shop. One day he proudly told me: "Those horns didn't sound loud enough to me. So one night I brought all the mouthpieces to my shop, and drilled them out !!!" Edited September 1, 2010 by HornsUp

Holy mackerel... remember that? I think it was a combination of us running late and the show running ahead of schedule. Never a good combination.
