Blue Devils tunes from the past

Recommended Posts

I don't want any snippets. Not from any corps.

For the last few years, BD has tended to feature a snippet of one tune from its past:

  • 2007 Pegasus (1980 and 1982)
  • 2009 Happy Days Are Here Again (1988)
  • 2010 La Suerte De Los Tontos (or, as Dan Potter calls it, "Las Suertos") (1979, 1980, 1992)

Which one would you like to hear in 2011, even if for just a bit?

How about using a snippet from the 2010 show, and see if anyone notices?

or cares !!!!

I want them to play all of 4'33".

Then I want EVERYONE on DCP to cry about how they can't recognize it.

-Latin Implosion from the 84 show.

-Anything they have done from Hank Levy

-Anything they did from the Don Ells 93 show, (maybe mixed in with some new Don Ellis).

-Bird and Bela in Bb- second piece/ballad from 1991.

Or, I hope The Renegades could put some of this in their show. One of the two.

Bird and Bela in Bb (1991)

Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor (1976)

Children's Hour of Dream (1996)

or if they continue to stay dark like 2010, another Bernard Hermann show (ala 2000) would be pretty cool.

While Blue Devils have often revisited music from past shows, I kind of prefer that they continue to explore new ground for the most part. I get what you're saying above, and I know that I'm not really speaking to you (and I kind of dug to an extent the quotes from those past shows). To be fair to you, BD quoting one of their own past charts isn't any different than Cavaliers quoting Mars at the end of a big battery impact, or any other quotes other corps do. But most of the people replying to you seem to want to see Blue Devils retread old shows, and I think it's been shown recently that doesn't tend to work out so well competitively or creatively.

When a man loves a woman with a Michael Bolton voice effect on the synth.

I say do Channel One Suite. The WHOLE thing. We don't need no stinking snippets.

It took until the 13th post of this thread... but this is the one I agree with! All are good choices, but Channel One could really cook with todays arrangements, modern instruments and styles of playing and marching.
