Fusion Core Administration Posted November 1, 2010 Share Posted November 1, 2010 PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 1, 2010 FUSION VISUAL TEAM ANNOUNCED Matt Risell is excited to return to Fusion Core as Visual Caption Head for the 2011 season. Matt holds a degree in music education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Matt instructed the Daniel Boone High School Marching Band and Indoor Color Guard from 2005 through 2008 serving as Brass Caption Head for the 2006 season. As of 2010 Matt is serving as a visual and music consultant with the Methacton High School Marching Band and getting into the world of marching band judging as an Individual Analysis Visual Judge for the National Judge's Association. Matt began his drum corps career in 1999 marching years with the Crossmen. His drum corps experience also includes 2006 Champions the Reading Buccaneers and the 2007 Bushwackers. Matt is very excited to be given the opportunity to continue the success of Fusion Core as we move into the future and looks forward to helping the organization grow. Tom Pohl returns to Fusion Core in 2011 in his role as a Visual Instructor celebrating his 25th anniversary in the drum & bugle corps activity. Tom's prior teaching experience includes both the Sunrisers and Nightbeat as a Visual Tech and Middlesex H.S (NJ) and Tottenville H.S. (Staten Island) as a drill instructor. Tom's marching career spanned 23 seasons, 22 of them competitively. He marched with many corps including the Bayonne Bridgemen, Masquerade, Keystoners, Lambertville Volunteers, Nightbeat, Sunrisers, Hawthorne Caballeros, and Bayonne Bridgemen Alumni. He has won three titles (1991 UDCA, 2007 DCA Class A, 2010 DCA Class A) with Nightbeat, Sunrisers and Fusion Core respectfully. Tom has learned his visual craft from some of the best in the activity, including Joe Roche, Jeff Sacktig, Bobby Steinhilber and Gene Bennett. Tom is eagerly looking forward to helping Fusion Core defend its championship in 2011. Mike Durborow joins the Core as Visual Instructor with a long history in the drum corps activity including DCA and DCI. Mike began his drum corps career marching with the world acclaimed Muchachos Drum & Bugle Corps in 1967 - 1977; Drum Major 1977, winter guard 1968 - 1973. He continued on to teach Garfield Cadets, 1979-80. In 1983 Mike joined the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum & Bugle Corps as Drum Major, 1983-84, and continued with the corps as Visual Staff 1985 - 1993, Visual Caption Head 1994 – 2005.
