KenDrum Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 From Madisons Facebook Page: "Just repeating Mason's post so it will go out to everybody's wall. The Madison Scouts will be opening the 2011 show with Bernstein's "New York, New York" from the musical "On the Town". Quote
CoHmempho04 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Scouting Across the Country? That'd be a nice title. Quote
Lance Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 cool stuff. hoping to hear more quality rep announcements form them. Quote
NR_Ohiobando Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Kinda hoping they would go with "I Can Cook Too" from the 1990 show, but this is awesome as well! Quote
WarriorHal Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 New York, New York from On the Town was the Scout's opener in 1977. Quote
skajerk Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Great tune! Can't wait to hear what they do with it now. Scouting Across the Country? That'd be a nice title. *sigh* Back to the same argument as last year... every show doesn't need a theme/title!! Quote
mobrien Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) Great tune! Can't wait to hear what they do with it now. *sigh* Back to the same argument as last year... every show doesn't need a theme/title!! Though, ironically, the 77 show DID have a theme (all New York-inspired Bernstein tunes). I'm not a fan of going back to the well of the past too often, but happy to hear that they're revisiting this particular tune. Edited December 12, 2010 by mobrien 1 Quote
eutocoatrompa Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I like that they have announced an actual name of music that they'll play, rather than their poster. And, I think this will be a great fit for the Scouts. I wonder if they'll keep up playing things they have done back in the day. There is certainly a lot of good things to choose from to keep up the great shows for the next few years atleast. 1 Quote

There is certainly a lot of good things to choose from to keep up the great shows for the next few years atleast. I'll second this. One thing I absolutely cannot stand in drum corps lately is corps that give you this big cerebral description about how the corps will be performing a musical interpretation of the deepest inner thoughts of goldfish or whatever their show concept is that year. Some corps are more guilty of it that others. Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Bluecoats, etc. I remember a video Crown posted a few years ago in January that was an interview with the design staff supposedly describing their show. What it really was was the 4 of them saying basically nothing, giggling, and patting each other on the back about how clever they all are. It was like the show announcement was some sort of really funny inside joke. I couldn't give less of a #### about your show poster and libretto and what it all means. 14 year-old saxophone players care. Thanks Scouts for keeping it simple and just telling us what your going to play. 3 Quote
