Corps names

The Flamingos used to have a trademark of having its members "pose" on one leg, like a flamingo.

heh... more of a joke, than a trademark. But, it used to be quite fun to tell people that. :P

This is great stuff! Love the origin story of the 27th Lancers and did not know that about the Blue Stars.

Originally called "Sons of the American Legion", in 1957 the corps adopted a spanish theme and renamed themselves the Americanos. There's likely more to the story but I am unsure how it goes.

See, at this point I would have made up some $#!t like "in 1957, the corps' director was reading 'Casino Royale,' noticed that James Bond was drinking an Americano and thought it would be a ###### name for his corps."

Yeah, that could have happened. :)

The corps that was named for a location of death....

The St. Francis Xavier Sancians got its name because St. Francis Xavier died in Sancian, China.

LOL, having been thru South Weymouth guess they had to make their own excitement...

The Bridgemen took their name from the Bayonne Bridge, a well known, practically iconic landmark to the locals in their home city.

Fred O.

The name was chosen based on the Fort Lee Bridgemen, named for the George Washington Bridge. According to Fr. Donovan, who also favored the Fort Lee athletic teams, St. Andrew's would be named for the Bayonne Bridge; thus giving birth to the Bridgemen.

Santa Clara Vanguard originated from a member vote. Gail insisted on Santa Clara being added to distinguish the corps from the other extant 'Vanguards' particularly Des Plaines.

quite the opposite for the Cadets,............the got rid of the city name to make the ultimate claim to the name,..............They are THE Cadets,........as in,......there can be no others
