Cavaliers 2011 Program Desription

^ Exactly!

I don't care what kind of show description they have, if they can't convey it on the field to the point where one can eventually understand the show without having to read what it's about, then the show isn't working.

As Gustav Mahler once said, "Down with programs!"

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I could very well be wrong), but wasn't Mahler also the composer that formalized concerts, wanted silence between movements, no clapping for solos, etc?

No. You are correct. Romantic Music was all about the program or the libretto.

At earlier points in life, Mahler was very much into the idea of "programs" or a link between his symphonies and non-musical concepts...he vacillated on this quite a bit at times
