1959, 1960 "Skyliners" LP recording

Recommended Posts

Great Album. Skyliners were the corps to see back then awsome soloist ! The Bucss Quartet was ahead of it's time. The Ambassadors I never listened to.

Fleetwood Records has this CD avaiable on their Web. Check it out.

I recently came across a pretty cool drum corps LP titled simply "Skyliners" but also features Canada's Marching Ambassadors, and The Reading Buccaneers Drum Quartet featuring Tom Bitner, John Flowers and Rodney Goodheart on snare drums, and Larry McDonald on Bass Drum. I have not played it, but I was wondering if anyone here was familiar with this recording?

That Album set the standard for others to follow.

I still have that recording and the 49th Parallel, almost worn out. Time to buy a turntable. Bob, remember my cabinet of records?

So ... here's an interesting tidbit ... and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong ... but ... the Skyliners were the last corps to defeat the Cabs in 1961 before they went on a win streak that entered into 1963 ... the Skyliners then ended the Cabs streak at the 63 Barnum Festival ... 10 years later, the Cabs returned the favor ... they were the last corps to beat the Skyliners in 1971 before Sky went on their win streak or 22 shows, which ended by the Cabs beating them in Schenectady in 1972 ...

:-)

I believe the Sky win streak began at the 71 Dream.

Andy, Felton(Sonny)Owens played that 71 DCA Championship record of Sky for me at his place in Manhattan one afternoon. He said listen to this opener. I about fell off the chair from the sound which he had cranked way up. That was one bad ### corps.

You are correct ... our streak went from the 71 Dream to the 72 Dream plus Amherst the week after ... it was a great run ... and as Hy used to say, an "animal" horn line ... I call it the period in time when we went from Metropolitan to Cosmopolitan ... we had people coming in from everywhere ... and the groupies ... OH MY!!!!
